After another wonderful, typical
Southern California summer, the ALL
Garden Club of Huntington Harbour
began a new season of learning, sharing,
and enjoying the company of
fellow gardeners (and some wannabe’s)
on September 19. We meet on alternate
months, generally having a short business
meeting followed by a speaker and
lunch at the HHYC. The September
meeting featured Mary Wagner, expert
in Feldenkraif Movement Therapy. She
conducted a workshop on “Gardening
without Aches and Pains”. Focusing
on how gardeners can make simple
adjustments in order to assure healthy
movement, Mary stressed an awareness of
ergonomics and body awareness exercises.
As a bonus, she also demonstrated simple
self-massage techniques. Much good
information was provided and members
asked important questions.
In the alternate months between
meetings, we like to get out and visit
some of the many gardens in the nearby
areas to enjoy the natural or enhanced
gardens so plentiful in this part of the
world! On October 17, Toni Aquino, one
of our members, has made arrangements
to visit The Hai Lai Buddhist Temple in
Hacienda Heights. We will have a docent
led tour of about forty-five minutes,
exploring the gardens, art, and architecture
that is so well known. Following the
visit to the temple, we will enjoy lunch in
the nearby area.
