WORLD’S LARGEST 2012 MINEXPO HELD IN USA

once again hosted the CablePrice (CPL)
Auckland Customer Golf Day held on 30
November, 2012 and despite the initial
light rain and relentless wind, 72 golfers
braved the elements and enjoyed a
challenging round of golf. Thankfully the
rain stopped soon after tee off and the
sun came out, which enabled guests to
dry out and enjoy the day.
Following registrations and the
consumption of hundreds of sausages,
competitors carried, dragged or wheeled
their bags across WPGC to their starting
tees for a stableford-based, 18-hole
tournament. Rounding out the day was
dinner and light refreshments in the club
house along with prize giving.
This year’s top spot was taken out by
Sailesh Abernethy with his amazing 39
stableford points. He went home with
a $1000 travel voucher and the prized
CablePrice Classic Cup. The remaining
golfers who stayed around the club
house for the awards ceremony and
dinner collected thousands of dollars
worth of additionally-sponsored prizes
for a variety of awards, thanks to the
generous sponsorship of a large number
of suppliers, and CablePrice.
Speaking during the awards ceremony,
CPL Auckland’s commercial vehicle
salesman, Simon Leary, said it was great to
see our staff, customers and suppliers all
come along and thanked the customers
for the support they render to the
business, saying this event is always a
pleasure to hold. •
Update on parts dismantling
‘First choice’ is the mission statement
adopted by CablePrice and, more
specifically, ‘First choice as a supplier to
our customers’. CablePrice endeavours
to be the preferred supplier of new,
genuine Hitachi, Scania and John Deere
parts, with exceptional service to match.
Building from this, CablePrice now offers
the same service in its second hand parts
department based in Christchurch.
Currently, there have been eight
various Scania 4 and PR series trucks
and a Hitachi ZX160 excavator that
have been dismantled. By having a fullyqualified
Scania and Hitachi-trained
diesel mechanic on-board, it is able
to thoroughly oversee and rebuild, if
necessary, any component that leaves the
department before sale. In addition to
this, it also supplies a 3 month warranty
on all major components.
With the demand for second hand
parts continuing to increase, CablePrice’s
second hand parts department will only
expand and its stock will increase. With
its excellent service remaining a constant,
it will ensure it continues to be your ‘First
Choice’ for second hand parts.
As CablePrice starts to increase its
stock, it will be looking to purchase
used vehicles and equipment. If you are

The world’s largest MINExpo
dedicated entirely to the mining industry
was held from 24 – 26 September last
year, at the Las Vegas Convention Centre
in Nevada, USA. It was the first time this
MINExpo had been held since 2008. The
Expo represented products from over
100 countries, was spread over 12 halls
occupying a total of 850,000 square-feet
of exhibition space and attracted more
than 50,000 visitors. Amongst the huge
number of visitors was CablePrice’s
mining product manager, Paul Laird who
hosted three CablePrice customers on
the week-long trip — five days of which
were spent in Las Vegas.

of MINExpo
Given the physical size of our mining
products, it’s logistically impossible to
bring gear of this size to New Zealand
to showcase to our customers, so the
next best thing is to take the customer
to the gear — and that’s exactly what
we did. This trip was all about showing
what new innovations Hitachi has on
offer, along with the latest state-of-the-art
technology Hitachi is launching.
Highlights of the show would have
to be the massive Hitachi EX5600-6
560 tonne face shovel and the Hitachi
EH5000 AC3 haul truck with its new sky
camera system. Haul trucks are notorious
for blind spots, so the new sky camera
Hitachi has developed gives the driver a
bird’s eye view around the truck and will
help overcome any blind spots. It also
gives the ability to detect objects within a
metre of the machine perimeter.
The group also spent time at the Scania
Trucks stand where the new specialised
Scania 5-Axle, 10x4*6 haul truck with an
Alison transmission was on display.
This particular combination offers
a 45 tonne payload. This new range of
Scania haul truck offers a mix of great
fuel economy and high payloads along
with Scania’s ability to adapt truck
specifications to the requirements of an
individual mine, thanks to its well-proven
modular system. This is just one more tool
in the selection that CablePrice is able to
offer to mining in New Zealand.
If I had to summarise the MINExpo,
three words would come to mind –
‘ridiculously huge’ and ‘unreal’. If you’re
in the mining industry then all I can say is
this is a‘must do’ event and I’m sure that
the next one — in 2016 — will be bigger
and better. It’s a lot to take in in three
days, but given the event was so well-run,
I’ve had nothing but positive feedback
from our customers who, like me, were
blown away by its size and scale. •
