DUPLICATE BRIDGE
Club Information
FINANCIAL
Duplicate Bridge can be played at the Anthem Center in
the Emerson/Franklin Room. The game is open to all
levels of Bridge players (beginners thru expert.) All
interested persons are welcome. Playing times are
Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. until approximately 9:30 p.m.,
and Saturdays from noon until approximately 3:30 p.m.
If you have never played Duplicate Bridge, this is a great
opportunity to play in a low level, competitive and
friendly environment.
Our game is not ACBL (American Contract Bridge League)
sanctioned, but we abide by ACBL standards of play.
Points are not awarded.

FILIPINIANA
The Filipiniana Club of Sun City
Anthem (SCA) is back in action after a
leisurely summer break. The 55 people
who joined the excursion to Tuacahn to
see Aladdin on Sept. 20 all had a
wonderful time. A Filipino Food
Festival will be held on Friday, October
5, from 5:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. at the
Courtyard and Morris/Nelson Rooms in Independence
Center. Contact Carmelo Beley at beleyc@aol.com or
837-4900 for last minute ticket availability. Cost is $10 per
person. You will experience a taste of Philippine cuisine,
entertainment, dancing and music fun by a DJ.
Coming up on November 13, 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Penn
Room in Independence Center, there will be a General
Membership Meeting. Current and prospective members
are invited to attend the meeting to review past events and
share ideas for future activities.
The club’s Christmas Party is set for Saturday, December 1,
5:00 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Anthem Ballroom. It will be a
semi-formal dinner and
dance. Details will be
posted soon.

October 10, 2012 - 7:00 p.m. in the Delaware Room at Anthem
Center
The speaker for this month is:
David Straus, JD, LL.M, CPA and
Elder Law Attorney
The Topic will be: Understanding
living trusts, how they work,
avoiding probate, and the impact
of the new federal and state laws
covering estate taxes.
Mr. Straus will first focus on
disability planning/living probate
in order to avoid a guardianship
and conservatorship. He will
cover living instructions outlining
who would step in to care for you
as well as how you would like to be cared for specifically e.g.
stay in your own home, go to an assisted care facility, nursing
home, etc..
Second, Mr. Straus will cover how, when and the way to leave
your property so that it is free of divorce, bankruptcy, lawsuits
and creditors of your beneficiaries. He will also focus on the
state exemptions of creditor protected assets as well as
umbrella policies. Then he will cover required minimum
distributions for IRAs and pensions plans.
Last, Mr. Straus will focus on avoiding probate with a funded
revocable living trust and estate taxes and the new federal and
state laws that impact all of the above.
Mr. Straus will also cover ANNUITIES and if these type of
investments are advisable for senior citizens.
