Club Information
The holiday season is fast approaching, and the members
of the Sewing and Quilting Club are ready as always for all
the holiday fun and traditions. Members are hard at work
sewing, quilting, crocheting and knitting items for
upcoming craft fairs and other community functions that
the season brings. Our seasonal items such as placemats
and table runners for autumn and winter holidays, as well
as aprons and tree skirts are on display. Come into the
sewing room and be impressed by the variety and
craftsmanship of our items. Some of the profits are
donated to charitable organizations and some goes to an
elementary school that has been chosen by the group. We
have shared interest groups that support these endeavors
and perhaps one or more might be of interest to you.
We have opportunities for fun and friendship. Our sewing
room is available to members for use any time there is a
monitor. We have member appreciation activities as well
as a holiday luncheon in December. We offer classes for
members who want to learn new skills or improve on
existing skills. Our classes range from learning to use the
sewing machine, learning to sew and quilt and learning
how to knit and crochet. We have classes for more
experienced sewers as well. All classes are taught by
members who volunteer their time and talents. If you are
interested in our group, please check out our website
www.scasq.org. We are looking forward to meeting you.
SHANGHAI RUMMY (PUSH)
Mondays 10:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Emerson/Franklin Room
If you enjoy cards that allow social conversation as you
play a few hours, please join us on Mondays for Push
(officially titled Shanghai Rummy.) Push is a variation of
gin rummy, originating in China. The play consists of
seven rounds of progressive sets of sets and runs, played
by 3 or 4 people using 3 decks of cards. The number of
cards held becomes quite a handful, so most players use
card racks, sold by the club.
We welcome new members, please join us. If you are new
to the game, please call President Shirley LaChance at
837-9924 to arrange a quick 10-minute instruction. Dues
are $5.00 a year. The monies go toward our annual Holiday
Party held the first Monday of December each year. This
year's Holiday Party will be held at Ventano Restaurant,
but you have to be a member to attend, so come in and join
now. The weather is cooler and the people are nice and
yes, even couples play.
