RV
October found our members enjoying two fun-filled trips
out of the area. The first adventure, led by Bob & Willie
Platts and Doc & Vera Miller, took 20 rigs to Rocky Point,
Mexico. Everyday activities included swimming in the
wonderful waters of the Sea of Cortez and beach games.
Card games included Mah Jongg and Texas Hold-Em.
John Strassner tried his hand at kayaking in the water and
was quite a sight to behold. Like all trips, the pot lucks
were wonderful, especially the Steak and Shrimp Feast.
The second October trip took us to Albuquerque, NM for
the International Balloon Festival. Dave & Sharon Smith
led this rally. The colorful balloons numbered over 30 and
were a sight to behold, especially the “Night-Glow.”
Future scheduled trips include Winterfest in Laughlin,
Nevada, the Branson-West festivities in Mesquite, Nevada,
our annual March trip to Phoenix for baseball Spring
Training and our April rally to Willow Beach at Lake Mead
for water activities and possible fishing for the legendary
Nevada “Marlin.” Stay tuned!
Our mission is to promote fellowship among Sun City
Anthem residents who share an interest in traveling
together in their recreational vehicles from Class A to tent
trailers.
Our meetings are held at 4:00 p.m. on the last Tuesday of
the month (except December, June and July) in the Penn
Room at Independence Center. If you are interested in a
great time and making new friends, please come to a
meeting or contact President George Ormsby at 492-2542.
Club Information
The Scrabble Plus Club meets on Friday afternoons from
1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Emerson/Franklin Room at
Anthem Center. Anyone not a member is welcome to join
us as a guest for a friendly game of Scrabble. If you want to
join, membership is open to all SCA residents for only $10
a year.
of the Day
The Scrabble “Word of the Day” is COWLING. This is a
removable cover of a vehicle or aircraft engine.
As the times change, so do the rules in acceptable words in
Scrabble. Over 3,000 new words have been added to
the official dictionary, including several slang terms
like “thang” and “grrl.” Turning the most heads is the
inclusion of “innit,” a condensation of “isn’t it.” Two new
“Q” words have been added that don’t require a “U.”
“QIN” is a Chinese zither with strings stretched across a
flat box while “FIQH” is an expansion of Islamic sharia
law. The push is to make the game more relevant to a
generation that’s more familiar with “Words with
Friends.” The Scrabble Plus Club may not recognize these
words yet. Until they are printed in the dictionaries used
by the club, these words may still be on the outer edges.
Let’s face it, it might be fun to earn 12 points by laying
down “blingy,” but you certainly won’t impress the
person across that table that has just dropped “Quixotry.”
That’s some thang to keep in mind – innit?
