Superintendent’s Proposal for FY 2013 Budget
The sole purpose of our work as public educators and members of the School Board is to
provide our students with the best educational opportunities possible. We are here to
provide a foundation for our students in order that they have solid footing as they enter
post-secondary education opportunities or move directly into the work force.
Over the past few years, in response to the economic restraints, we have restructured our
staff, scrutinized our spending patterns, streamlined our resources, frozen salaries, and
organized a “collective K-12 budget planning model” in order to lessen the impact on
services provided to our children. It remains a priority that we continue to meet the needs
of our diverse population and assure adequate funding from our Board of Supervisors for
the 2012-2013 school year. The members of our School Board continue to bridge
communication with their counterparts on the Board of Supervisors and this is integral to
our success as a school division and as a community.
I am grateful for the never-ending efforts of our administrative leadership team as well as
our Fluvanna County Public School employees who have offered their insights, suggestions,
and rolled up their sleeves to make the best of the implications related to the economic
distress. I am also truly grateful for the members of our School Board. Having a board that
believes deeply in our public education system assures us that we can remain focused,
accountable, and ultimately successful in meeting the needs of each and every child.
