Organizational changes
AREVA announced an organizational
realignment to address increased
U.S. demand for modernization and
services of the existing fleet of nuclear
power plants and plans for deploying a
new fleet of U.S. EPR plants. These
changes take effect immediately.
George Beam, formerly Nuclear
Services Senior Vice President, has been
appointed to the new position of Chief
Operating Officer. He will lead AREVA
NP Inc. Nuclear Services, Fuel Sector,
AREVA Canada, Ltd., and SGT LLC,
AREVA’s joint venture with URS.
Joe Zwetolitz returns to the Nuclear
Services organization as Senior Vice
President to continue to strengthen
those operations. Ron Land succeeds
Zwetolitz as the acting senior executive
for AREVA Fuel Sector.
AREVA also recently announced
the appointment of Mark Marano to
Senior Vice President for New Plants
Business Development, and additional
steps are being taken to strengthen that
organization. Matt Dryden has joined
AREVA NP Inc. as Manager of Business
Development.

Valve Orders
Flowserve Corporation confirmed
it had earlier received two significant
orders from Westinghouse Electric
Company for AP1000 nuclear power
projects in China.
Flowserve announced in May
2008 that it received an order to supply
main steam isolation valves for two
Westinghouse nuclear power plant
projects in China. Since that time,
Westinghouse has also placed additional
safety related valve orders to include
main feedwater isolation valves and
motor-operated gate and globe valves
for two AP1000 Westinghouse nuclear
projects in China.
These additional orders were
recorded as bookings in 2008.

Award
Invensys Process Systems (IPS),
a global technology, software and
consulting firm, announced that it has
received the 2009 Frost & Sullivan South
East Asia Industrial Technologies Award
for “Customer Service Leadership for
Safety Systems” at a ceremony in Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia.

Joint Venture
The JSC Atomenergoprom, Russia
and Toshiba Corporation, Japan have
agreed to carry out joint activities in
nuclear fuel cycle products and services
in Japan and other countries in Asia (a
non-exclusive contract). For these purposes
the parties considered establishing
the Joint Venture which will be engaged
in deliveries of nuclear fuel and its components.
The parties will strive to a
maximum use of their existing potential;
jointly develop market infrastructure elements
improving the level of assured
deliveries for national energy security.
The parties are working on establishing
guaranteed stockpiles of low-enriched
uranium at the sites of nuclear fuel fabrication.
Both parties have also agreed to
commence the joint study on improvement
of Russian Nuclear Power Plant
design process and construction technology
to shorten the construction period.
Furthermore, for the manufacturing
arena, an agreement has taken place to
continue the study for establishing the
partnership on manufacturing for power
generation systems.

Acquisition
David Harris, President and CEO of
Kinectrics Inc. announced that Kinectrics
will expand its expertise in nuclear
regulatory and licensing capabilities
through the acquisition of Candesco
Corporation of Toronto, Ontario.
Candesco specializes in providing
regulatory affairs consulting for the
Canadian power industry.
Both companies will continue to
provide advanced services in nuclear
asset management, condition assessment,
engineering and operations support. All
of the Candesco partners will continue
to work for the company.
On completion of the acquisition,
Candesco will operate as a separate
company within the Kinectrics family
of companies.

Engineering Simulator
L-3 MAPPS has received
authorization from AREVA NP to
proceed with the development of an
engineering simulator based on the
Flamanville 3 (FA3) EPR design. This
is part of the continuing services L-3
MAPPS provides to AREVA’s Real-
Time Simulation Centre in Paris and
closely follows the Olkiluoto 3 EPR
Engineering Simulator which was put
into service by L-3 MAPPS at AREVA’s
Erlangen, Germany test facility in
October 2008. The FA3 Engineering
Simulator is expected to be delivered at
the end of 2010.
