One facility, Hoffpauir has been in
management in the areas of operations,
outages and maintenance. While noting
that the maintenance management job was
the “hardest – and the most rewarding,”
he emphasizes the advantages of being
part of a fleet with shared resources.
“When you are in an outage you
are looking at the quality of work and
managing performance behaviors. With
shared resources from other Entergy
plants, you have a quality advantage.
With contractors it’s about oversight of
the work; with our own employees, you
have an instant team member.”
At Entergy, you have three jobs:
your regular plant job; your emergency
plan job; and your outage job. For some,
that outage job means going regularly to
other Entergy facilities. For example, up
to 30% of the maintenance staff goes to
work other outages within the fleet.

John Bouck, outage manager for
FitzPatrick, details how benchmarking
for lessons learned from 2007 and 2008
within the Entergy fleet and throughout
the industry in conjunction with General
Electric-Hitachi, resulted in major
improvements. Innovative and economic
solutions included:
