the regular season on the team’s practice squad before being signed to the
active roster on Dec. 7...Originally signed with the Packers as a non-drafted
free agent in May 2010, spending time on both the practice squad and
active roster in his first NFL season a year ago.
50 A.J. Hawk, LB, 6th Year, Ohio State
2011 Season: Defensive signal caller and consistent defender who
opened the first 11 games of the season at the ‘Buck’ LB position and is
third on the defense with 98 tackles (68 solo), four passes defensed and
1½ sacks...Suffered a calf injury at Detroit in Week 12 and landed on the
inactive list for the first time in his career at the N.Y. Giants in Week 13...
Dressed for the game vs. Oakland in Week 14 but did not see any action
as he was held out by the coaching staff.
vs. New Orleans Saints (9/8): Started at BLB and recorded five tackles (four
solo) in the season opener...Also was featured on a variety of blitzes and
was credited with a half-sack and three pressures...Half-sack came on
a third-and-4 on New Orleans’ first drive of the fourth quarter...Initially
attempted to penetrate the line through its right side but with too much
traffic, twisted around past LG Carl Nicks and teamed with CB/S Jarrett
Bush to drop QB Drew Brees for a 10-yard loss, forcing a punt.
at Carolina Panthers (9/18): Started at BLB and was credited with three
tackles (one solo) and a pass defensed...Broke up a QB Cam Newton pass
intended for WR Legedu Naanee over the middle inside the Green Bay
5-yard line late in the fourth quarter.
at Chicago Bears (9/25): Posted three tackles (all solo), contributing to a
stingy run defense that yielded just 13 yards on 12 attempts (1.1 avg.),
tied for the fourth-lowest total in team history...Made a third-down stop on
RB Matt Forté after a 9-yard completion late in the third quarter...Initially
dropped into a deep zone coverage, but changed directions to come up
and tackle the elusive RB short of a first down to force a punt...The offense
would score on the ensuing drive to extend the lead to 27-10.
vs. Denver Broncos (10/2): Made seven tackles (five solo) and deflected a
pass that resulted in an INT for S Charlie Peprah in the fourth quarter...On
the play, was in coverage of WR Eric Decker and delivered a hit just as the
WR tried to haul in the pass, jarring it loose...The ball carromed up into the
air and was secured by Peprah, allowing Green Bay to run out the remaining
1:54 on the clock...Also crossed with fellow ILB Desmond Bishop on
a cross blitz in the third quarter, occupying blockers to free Bishop for an
8-yard sack.
at Atlanta Falcons (10/9): Matched his previous week total with seven tackles
(five solo), also recording a QB hit and a pass defensed as part of a
defense that did not allow a single point beyond the 12:29 mark of the second
quarter...Also helped limit RB Michael Turner to just 56 rushing yards
on 16 carries (3.5 avg.), including just 20 on six tries in the second half.
vs. St. Louis Rams (10/16): Had one of his most active, productive games of
recent memory, recording a season-high 13 tackles (seven solo, one for
loss) and his first full sack of the season, keying a defense that did not
give up a TD for the first time in 2011...Made impactful plays on back-toback
snaps early in the second quarter...On the first, a first-down play at
the Green Bay 42-yard line, dropped in coverage and tackled WR Brandon
Gibson for no gain at the line of scrimmage after he’d slipped free of CB
Tramon Williams’ grasp...On the following play, used a delayed rush to
the inside, twisting around DT Howard Green, who was engaged with two
blockers...Found a huge gap in the middle of the protection and buried QB
Sam Bradford for a 9-yard loss to force a third-and-long and an eventual
punt...Also had another pressure just before halftime when he twisted with
DE Jarius Wynn, shooting past LG Jacob Bell and into the pocket where
Bradford was forced to throw the ball away.
at Minnesota Vikings (10/23): Finished with six tackles (five solo) and a QB
hit...Forced QB Christian Ponder into a wide throw on a third-and-12 late in
the second quarter when he brought pressure by blitzing up the middle and
slamming into RB Adrian Peterson in the backfield, nearly hitting Ponder
and forcing the him to get rid of the ball.
play from scrimmage, coming up to drill the TE after a 1-yard completion
in the right flat...Two plays later, blitzed between C and RG, beating C Jeff
Faine to QB Josh Freeman and batting the QB’s arm to cause a wobbly pass
to fall incomplete, forcing a punt.
at Detroit Lions (11/24): Started the game and recorded seven tackles (five
solo) and a pass defensed, but sustained a calf injury late in the first half
and did not return...Broke up a pass from QB Matthew Stafford intended
for TE Brandon Pettigrew on the Lions’ first possession, diving in to knock
the ball from the TE’s grasp...Also was quick to diagnose a screen pass
to RB Kevin Smith on the Lions’ second possession and knifed through
blockers to drop the RB after a gain of just 1 yard.
at New York Giants (12/4): Missed the first game of his six-year professional
career, a streak of 98 consecutive games that came to an end with his
being listed as an inactive due to the calf injury suffered the previous week
at Detroit.
on a first-down play from the Green Bay 3-yard line in the fourth quarer.
vs. Chicago Bears (12/25): Finished second on defense with 12 tackles
