Mammography
Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT)
(meets requirements for technologist initial training)
Come spend the day learning the new digital mammography application that is
expected to show an increase in breast cancer detection and reduce call back rates. The
day is filled with interesting new information on Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT).
We will cover the DBT technology, mammography technologist quality control testing,
clinical applications and more. While 2D mammography has its benefits over analog
there is still the issue of superimposed tissue which can obscure structures. This unique
modality demonstrates breast tissue without overlying structures by imaging the breast
in thin cross sectional slices. You don’t want to miss this day of education and get in on
the ground floor of knowledge regarding this fascinating new modality. This seminar

Deborah Ann Thames, RT(R)(M)(QM)
Deborah is a mammography
technologist at the M.D. Anderson
Cancer Center in Houston,
TX where she is responsible for
screening and diagnostic mammography,
stereotactic core biopsies,
and digital mammography. In addition to working
on the Mobile Transit Mammography Unit, she excels
at routine and fluoroscopic diagnostic procedures in
diagnostic radiology. Deborah received her radiologic
technologist certificate from Stephen W. Brown School
of Radiology in Augusta, Georgia. She also has a degree
in mathematics from Augusta Technical College and a
degree in chemistry from Aiken Technology Institute.
Susan Sprinkle-Vincent, AAS, RT(R)(M)
Susan is an internationally known
expert in the field of mammography
with years of experience
performing and teaching mammography.
She was previously an
instructor associated with the continuing
education program cosponsored by the National
Cancer Institute and American College of Radiology.
Susan was the Project Director of Mammography at the
University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Clinic. She
joined the AHEC team in 2000 to expand the mammography
educational services and to build a new division
to assist AHEC’s clients with mammography consulting
services. Susan is widely known for her expertise in
the clinical aspects of mammography and her technical
skills. She continues to actively teach technologists, residents,
and physicians the finer details of this highly technical
field. Susan’s desire to share her knowledge with
others has led to another amazing experience at AHEC.
Leslie Stiff-Martin, BA, RT(R)(M)
Leslie is an experienced radiographer
with a diverse background in
education, management, and consulting.
She has been a mammography
instructor since 1990. Leslie
teaches at Cabrillo College in California
where she has created a number of radiography
programs and curricula including the JCERT approved
Radiology/Mammography Program. In addition to her
teaching and consulting duties, Leslie is very active
in the California State Society and presents programs
around the U.S. for Advanced Health Education Center.
Mary Ann Coleman, RT(R)(M)
Mary Ann is a Mammography
Consultant based out of Binghamton,
NY. Previously she worked
for Hologic, Inc. as a Women’s
Health Specialist and a Senior
Applications Specialist. Ms. Coleman’s
primary responsibility is working with Radiologists,
Surgeons, and Mammography Technologists on
the clinical utilization of all the Breast Imaging products,
including Digital Breast Tomosynthesis. She
has additional experience teaching stereotactic breast
biopsy for Fischer Industries. Mary Ann has over 10
years in Interventional radiology and 25 years in the
Breast Imaging field and had joined AHEC’s mammography
faculty to share her knowledge and expertise.
