MRI Fellowship Magnetic Resonance Imaging is one of the fastest evolving and exciting fields in medical imaging. MRI has evolved to include cardiac MRI and functional MRI. You can be part of this growing field with didactic (classroom) training and practical clinical rotations. The marriage of a solid theoretical background combined with clinical experience is the preparation needed to enter this field. The practical applications and clinical rotations are key ingredients to completing the training. You can choose the right combination of events to match your needs. The first component of training is theory, with weeks two through four available for clinical rotations. Invest in your future and advance your career. Course Topics Week 1 – Theory (total 32 hours) • 20 hours Fundamentals of image formation/ instrumentation/safety/physics of NMR • 12 hours Basic Pulse Sequences/Protocols/ Image Analysis CE Credit 32 Hours Weeks 2,3,4 – Clinical Rotation 40 hours of clinical rotations (Monday-Friday) each week will give each student the opportunity to experience a wide array of exams, be tutored by experienced MR professionals who provide insights, advice, and help you get the most out of your training. Certificate of Completion awarded reflecting clinical hours completed.. **No CE credit is awarded for clinical hours This concentrated four-week modular course is designed to introduce many aspects of MRI operation in a practical format focused to promote understanding of concepts integrated with “hands on experience”. Course topics include computer operation, technical aspects of MR imaging, fundamental evaluation of cross-sectional anatomy, and image formation. The learning process is monitored and continuous. Due to the amount of information course attendees must process, it is important to read over course materials and required and recommended text outside of the classroom setting. This allows the attendees to ask any questions related to the material of the course faculty. AHEC continually strives to provide the highest quality continuing education for students. He received an associate’s degree in radiologic technology and a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Michigan. He began his magnetic imaging experience in 1983. His professional experience ranges from MRI application specialist for a major medical manufacturer to clinical education manager. From 1993 to 2001 Gregory worked as a MRI consultant and business development manager for Image Enhancement Systems. He is the primary author of Lippincott’s Magnetic Resonance Imaging Review published in 1996 and author of a chapter on image artifacts and MRI safety in MRI for Technologists. Bone Densitometry Bone Densitometry: Principles and Procedures Bone densitometry is a very hot topic. It is proving to be a key tool in the diagnosis and treatment outcomes of osteoporosis. There are an estimated 44 million Americans affected by osteoporosis each year. The cost of managing the consequences of this disease cost the health care system in the United States billions of dollars. The inclusion of bone densitometry as a reimbursable Medicare procedure has focused attention on who is performing the procedures and on personnel training requirements. This comprehensive training program will prepare you to meet and exceed the current training requirements. Every aspect of principles, theory, practical knowledge and skills to perform bone densitometry will be highlighted. This course will meet the needs of those new to the field or those wishing to expand their knowledge beyond the “how to’s”. The comprehensive program was developed by an ARRT registered and ISCD credentialed densitometrist and includes topics that are reflective of the content specifications for the International Society of Clinical Densitometry and the ARRT Registry for Bone Densitometry. This course is designed for all healthcare professionals who are planning to or are currently performing bone densitometry measurements in either clinical practice, women’s healthcare or imaging facilities. Please Note: Healthcare professionals in Texas, who are not registered radiologic technologists, should also register for the “Radiation Safety in Imaging Today” course in order to meet the radiation safety requirements for the Texas De-partment of State Health Services. Lesa has an extensive background in clinical quality control, Quality Management and Bone Densitometry. She was Quality Control Technologist at Methodist Hospital and then Assistant Director at St. Luke’s Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital. “ Lesa is an excellent instructor.
