1. Introduction<br />

These <strong>Application</strong> <strong>Notes</strong> describe the steps required to integrate the <strong>Algo</strong> <strong>8180</strong> <strong>SIP</strong> <strong>Audio</strong><br />

<strong>Alerter</strong> <strong>with</strong> <strong>Avaya</strong> Aura TM Session Manager and <strong>Avaya</strong> Aura TM Communication Manager<br />

configured as an Evolution Server. The <strong>8180</strong> <strong>SIP</strong> <strong>Audio</strong> <strong>Alerter</strong> is a <strong>SIP</strong> compliant PoE audio<br />

device that registers <strong>with</strong> Session Manager in the same way as a <strong>SIP</strong> telephone. It can register as<br />

two separate extensions, one <strong>for</strong> loud ringing and one <strong>for</strong> auto-answer voice paging.<br />

For loud ringing, the <strong>8180</strong> <strong>SIP</strong> <strong>Audio</strong> <strong>Alerter</strong> can be configured to ring whenever a specified<br />

desk phone receives an incoming call. In this case, the <strong>8180</strong> <strong>SIP</strong> <strong>Audio</strong> <strong>Alerter</strong> will play a<br />

specified audio file from internal memory. The simultaneous ringing at the <strong>8180</strong> and desk<br />

phone is achieved by configuring the desk phone as a bridged appearance on the <strong>8180</strong> station on<br />

the <strong>Avaya</strong> Aura TM Communication Manager Evolution Server. This feature is useful <strong>for</strong> users<br />

that require louder ringing than is available from their desk phone.<br />

For voice paging, the <strong>8180</strong> <strong>SIP</strong> <strong>Audio</strong> <strong>Alerter</strong> will auto-answer the incoming call and allow the<br />

caller to broadcast audio over the <strong>8180</strong> speaker until the caller terminates the call.<br />

1.1. Interoperability Compliance Testing<br />

Interoperability compliance testing covered the following features and functionality:<br />

• Successful registration of the <strong>8180</strong> <strong>SIP</strong> <strong>Audio</strong> <strong>Alerter</strong> <strong>with</strong> Session Manager, including<br />

the Ring and Page extensions.<br />

• Simultaneous ringing at a desk phone and the <strong>8180</strong> <strong>SIP</strong> <strong>Audio</strong> <strong>Alerter</strong> using a bridged<br />

appearance.<br />

• Voice paging <strong>with</strong> the <strong>8180</strong> <strong>SIP</strong> <strong>Audio</strong> <strong>Alerter</strong>.<br />

• G.711 codec support <strong>with</strong> voice paging.<br />

• Conference and mute/un-mute while on a voice paging call.<br />

• Simultaneous page and ring calls at the <strong>8180</strong> <strong>SIP</strong> <strong>Audio</strong> <strong>Alerter</strong>.<br />

• Proper system recovery after the <strong>8180</strong> <strong>SIP</strong> <strong>Audio</strong> <strong>Alerter</strong> loses power.<br />
