A growing share of Stena’s volume in
Russia is being collected directly at the
source, from industrial customers or
through the growing demolition business.
Investments in new transport equipment
and containers are contributing to higher
efficiency and better service.
The Stena Metall Group collects, processes
and trades scrap in Russia. The majority
of its volume is sold to export markets
through the port of St. Petersburg, while a
small share is sold to local steel mills.
Russian ferrous scrap maintains a high
quality and is sought after locally and in
the export market.
Capacity in the Russian steel industry is
on the rise. The resulting demand for
scrap is making Russia an important home
market for Stena. The prospects are promising:
Russia is Europe’s largest scrap market
and its economy is growing strongly.
The volume of scrap Stena handles is
clearly rising. A large share is construction
scrap, some collected from demolition
projects, which has become a growing
business. Cooperation with Russian
scrap suppliers is developing in several
ways. Investments in two mobile presses
have raised the efficiency of the services
offered to customers in St. Petersburg and
Moscow. With a new mobile shears, production
will continue to improve in the
future.
Collection systems with containers are
offered to customers from whom Stena
collects scrap.
The new scrapyard scheduled to be
opened in St. Petersburg in autumn 2005
will be the largest of the five Stena operates
in the country.
