INTRODUCTION
# Stay tuned to local radio, NOAA weather alert
radio, or television for weather advisories and
special instructions from local government.
# Send pre-designated spotters to observation spots.
# Obtain clear view of south and west, or of
approaching severe weather.
# Move students from temporary structures.
A tornado warning indicates that a tornado has been detected
nearby. In the event of a tornado warning:
# Act quickly, stay calm, and move to safe areas.
# Evacuate the room quickly and orderly.
# If a school was constructed with an EHPA, this
area should be used during a tornado threat.
# Once in a tornado shelter area:
» Assume protective squatting position with
hands locked on back of neck.
» Remain in position until instructed differently.
If there is insufficient time to evacuate:
# Go to an inside wall away from windows.
# Squat on floor, face down.
# Cover your head.
If in relocatable/portable/mobile facility:
# If time permits, evacuate to interior corridors of
permanent structures.
# Alternately, seek shelter in a ditch or low spot on
the ground away from relocatable/portable/mobile
building, assume a fetal position, and protect your
head.
If outdoors:
# If there is sufficient time, go to a reinforced
structure.
# Seek shelter in a ditch or low spot on the ground.
