To learn more about Visy, visit: www.visy.com.au Design Challenge Convenience continues to be one of the global mega-trends driving consumer behaviour and thus innovation in many consumer goods. The challenge is to design a single package for a food and non-alcoholic beverage for an onthe-go meal or snack solution for the 18-35 year old demographic. The products should be a healthy, convenient meal and the packaging should reflect these attributes. While the technical specifications and ability to be manufactured are important requirements, we are above all looking for an outstanding, creative and innovative concept! A “snack” may be any meal or food item that can be easily prepared and consumed “on-thego.” The guidelines for serving sizes are: ≥ Beverage 350ml to 600ml ≥ Snack 100g to 300g 22
Mandatory Requirements Students must address and will be judged on the following: ≥ Package must be able to be manufactured from plastics by either thermoforming or blow-moulding or a combination of both. ≥ The target market for the product is the 18-35 year old demographic. ≥ Research of the needs and possible consumption occasions of the product and the target market and a justification of how your design meets those needs must be included in the rationale. ≥ Ergonomic, functional design aspects. ≥ A secondary material may be incorporated to make the 2 items a single package. Please note: your design can be creative in combining both plastic packages together and does NOT have to have a secondary material. Considerations ≥ ‘Reduce, re-use, recycle’ ≥ Transportation and supply chain ≥ Sustainable design ≥ Consumer use during consumption and/ or an alternative use for the packaging after consumption ≥ A design that can be readily adapted to smaller or larger serving sizes would be advantageous Materials For the purpose of the Awards, mock-ups can be made out of more accessible materials that convey the packaging design and functionality. The rationale must refer to the specified materials as set in the mandatory requirements.
