It is designed to minimise the environmental impacts arising from the disposal of used packaging, conserve resources through better design and production processes and facilitate the re-use and recycling of used packaging materials. Australian Food and Grocery Council www.afgc.org.au The Australian Food and Grocery Council (AFGC) is the national body representing the nation’s food and grocery products manufacturers. The food and grocery products industry is Australia’s largest manufacturing sector. The role of the Council is to help shape a business environment that encourages the food and grocery products industry to grow and remain profitable. The Council provides food and grocery products manufacturers with a platform from which they can voice their views on a range of issues. Plastics and Chemicals Industry Association www.pacia.org.au The Plastics and Chemicals Industries Association is the pre-eminent national body representing Australia’s fourth largest manufacturing sector. There is a wealth of information available on their website which includes: plastics, recycling, sustainability, plus more. 26
Rules and Process of the Awards Who can enter? ≥ Entrant(s) must be studying part-time or full-time at a recognised tertiary educational institution in Australia ≥ All briefs are open to students across all year levels ≥ Students can enter 2 ways: > Individually—$33 (including GST) > Syndicate—pairing of students. They do not have to be studying at the same institution. Details of both students need to be completed on the entry form. Cost is $55 (including GST) How to register? ≥ Fax/post—Entry form is at the back of this brochure. Complete all details and submit following fax/postal details listed. (If form is faxed, payment must be received within 5 working days for registration to be processed) ≥ Online—Log onto PCA website: www.pca.org.au/awards2010/sx ≥ Group Registration—The institute can be invoiced for group bookings. Lecturers should contact Jen Salem, Awards Manager for further details All registrations must be received by Friday, 18 June 2010. What happens after registration? ≥ Once registration has been processed, an entry code will be allocated ≥ Students will receive an entry code with delivery instructions for their entry via their lecturer What and How do you submit? ≥ Two parts must be submitted to make a complete entry— a mock-up and rationale. Both are mandatory ≥ Ensure your entry code is clearly marked on both items NOT your name and/or institution ≥ Entries must be received NO LATER than 4pm on Wednesday, 28 July 2010. Entries will be delivered to Melbourne so ALLOW time for postage!! ≥ See “What is a Rationale” for further details (page 24) What happens after you have submitted your entry? ≥ Judging will be held over three days with all winners notified via their lecturer ≥ All entries submitted will be on display at the Melbourne Exhibition ≥ All entries will be returned to students via lecturers at the institutions expense. Appropriate forms will be sent to the lecturers Important Information ≥ The Packaging Council of Australia (PCA) does not accept any responsibility for loss or damage to an entry. Every effort will be made by the PCA to avoid damage or loss of an entry ≥ Students are strongly encouraged to photograph their work before submitting their entry ≥ Entrants must not have previously designed a commercially marketed package ≥ The PCA has no ownership or property rights in the intellectual property of the submitted design and all such rights are retained exclusively by the entrant and/or the owner of the designs intellectual property ≥ The sponsor of the relevant design brief has first option to enter into an agreement with the relevant entrant/ syndicate with respect to purchasing, licensing or otherwise using the property ≥ Such an agreement shall be on reasonable market terms and condition to be agreed between the entrant and the sponsor ≥ The sponsor of the brief has six calendar months from the closing date of submission to approach the entrant(s).
