Right to Health of Internally Displaced Persons - IDP SriLanka

In Batticaloa West, the drinking water is distributed by bowsers in
collaboration with Pradeshiya Sabha and UNICEF. But some villages
get water only for three days in a week and because of the salty nature of
the available bathing water some are opted to use drinking water for
bathing. It was reported that the drinking water is not supplied to people
in Pudhumandapathadi, Gandhinagar and the people in Unnichchei get

water from Unnichchai tank which is nearby . People in
Sinnakudiruppuwa IDP relocation (150 persons, 42 families) in
Kalpitiya DS Division, Puttalam due to the unsuitability of drinking
water used to buy water from visiting water sellers to the village.
Availability of safe water is always concomitant with other health
aspects .In Anuradhapura it was observed in Gravel Kanda, Gajabapura,
Monarawewa relocations that most of natural deaths are happening due
to unidentified reason and they also facing problems as to the suitable
drinking water since still there is no any drinking water project for these
areas. In Fact Finding Mission at Weli Oya by the Project, it was pointed
out that there is high concentration of chloride in water and it is not
suitable for drinking purposes without proper treatment and it was
mentioned by the people that already 2 or 3 people have died from kidney
failure as a result of this untreated water.
