60. STATE OR PROVINCIAL HERD shall consist of<br />

eight animals from one state as follows:<br />

-- 3 females, two years or over<br />

-- 3 females, under two years of age<br />

-- 2 other females, any age<br />

-- or 1 bull and 1 female any age<br />

AYRSHIRE ONLY - Exhibitors from Pennsylvania,<br />

New Jersey, and West Virginia may combine to form<br />

one entry in the State Herd Class. Also, exhibitors<br />

from Maryland and Delaware may combine to form<br />

one entry in the State Herd Class.<br />

BROWN SWISS ONLY-Herd will consist of 6 animals:<br />

2 females, two years or over; 2 females under two<br />

years; 2 females, any age.<br />

Milking Shorthorn ONLY - This is a lead out class.<br />

Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, Holstein,<br />

Jersey and Red & White Only - This is not a lead<br />

out class. It will be figured on a point basis according<br />

to the animals’ placing in class (See point scale<br />

in rule 63). An exhibitor selected as a representative<br />

from each state will be required to turn in a sheet at<br />

the end of the aged cow class, indicating the names<br />

of the entries and placings.<br />

Application for entry must be made on a standard<br />

entry or on-line registration form by an officer of the<br />

state breed organization, or any exhibitor representing<br />

the organization. The entry must name the person<br />

or persons who will be in charge of the state herd<br />

and who will name the animals that will constitute<br />

the herd. A list of animals in the State Herd must<br />

be delivered to the breed superintendent prior to the<br />

judging of the class. Entry will be accepted prior to<br />

the end of the breed show. The following other requirements<br />

must be met:<br />

The animals in the State Herd must be owned by not<br />

less than three exhibitors with no exhibitor furnishing<br />

more than three animals and all animals in which<br />

an exhibitor owns a partnership (or syndicate) interest<br />

will be counted in these three.<br />

Animal(s) shown by an exhibitor in the open show<br />

may be shown by that exhibitor in the State or Provincial<br />

Herd in accord with his/her exhibitor address<br />

regardless of the State or Province in which the animal<br />

is housed, OR, at the discretion of the exhibitor,<br />

be shown in the State or Provincial Herd consistent<br />

with the housing address, provided the animal is<br />

health tested in that State or Province.<br />

Animal(s) owned and exhibited by a syndicate or<br />

firm is (are) eligible for showing in a State or Provincial<br />

Herd consistent with the address of the syndicate<br />

or firm as evidenced on the registration certificate.<br />

BROWN SWISS ONLY - Animal(s) owned and exhibited<br />

by a syndicate or partnership must be shown in<br />

the state in which they are usually housed.<br />

<strong>All</strong> animals from a herd or farm, regardless of ownership,<br />

shall be counted in the three head allowed by<br />

one exhibitor.<br />

Cattle owned by state institutions will be allowed to<br />

show in the state herd class, but all institutions in a<br />

state will be considered one exhibitor, and allowed to<br />

show not more than three head in a state group.<br />

-- 1 female, any age<br />

-- No more than two animals from one exhibitor.<br />

This is not a lead out class.<br />

PREMIER AWARDS<br />

62. PREMIER EXHIBITOR AWARD shall be made to<br />

the exhibitor credited with the most points on and<br />

not to exceed six animals owned and exhibited in<br />

the open single classes (see rule 28). Not more than<br />

two can be bulls. <strong>All</strong> exhibitors will be eligible for this<br />

award and no entry form is required. In the case of<br />

multiple ownership, all points awarded for Premier<br />

Exhibitor will be credited to the individual, partnership<br />

or syndicate who is exhibiting the animal.<br />

Holstein – See Rule 2 Page 31<br />

63. PREMIER BREEDER AWARD shall be made to<br />

the breeder of animals credited with the most points<br />

on and not to exceed six animals in the open classes,<br />

exhibited by himself and/or other exhibitors. Not<br />

more than two can be bulls. No entry form is required<br />

and the winner of this award need not be an<br />

exhibitor at the show (see<br />

rule 28). When determining<br />

the Premier Breeder,<br />

shall be the name of the<br />

person, farm, or partnership,<br />

as it appears on the<br />

registry certificate.<br />

64. TOTAL PERFORMANCE WINNERS - Calculations<br />

will be made and winners determined by the respective<br />

breed Association.<br />

Ayrshire - A Total Performance award is provided to<br />

the owner of the top female, shown in a class 3 years<br />

old and over; based on a 100 point total as follows:<br />

50 points on placing, 1 st , 50 points, 2 nd , 47 points,<br />

3 rd , 44 points, etc. 50 points on production, 1 st , 50<br />

points, 2 nd , 48 points, 3 rd , 46 points, etc. <strong>All</strong> entries,<br />

regardless of age, will be considered as one production<br />

class and points awarded accordingly. Record to<br />

be used is last completed record based on an Energy<br />

Corrected Milk (E.C.M.) (Records to be on hand and<br />

made available by the exhibitor to Ayrshire representative).<br />

Brown Swiss - This class will recognize a cow on<br />

her TOTAL performance-milk production and show<br />

ring placing. Her total score will be determined by:<br />

(1) placing in the respective class; (2) her highest<br />

305-day, 2x Energy Corrected Milk (ECM) record;<br />

and (3) the total lbs. of ECM produced per day over<br />

24 months of age up through July 1, 2011. (Up-todate<br />

production through July 1 as reported on the<br />

monthly DHI report should be supplied by exhibitor<br />

two weeks prior to show day.) The requirements a<br />

cow must meet to qualify for the Total Performance<br />

class are as follows: (1) born before September<br />

1, 2006; (2) completed three lactations by July 1,<br />

2011; (3) possess at least one official DHI record<br />

in 305-day, 2x of 20,000 lbs. of milk or 800 lbs. of<br />

butterfat or 700 lbs. of protein, (4) place in the top<br />

50% of her respective class (top five if less than 10<br />

in class); and (5) diagnosed pregnant if lst calving or<br />

embryo collection is more than 12 months prior to<br />

the show date. Official lifetime production records<br />

on all qualifying cows must be sent to and received<br />

by the National Brown Swiss office at least two (2)<br />

weeks prior to show day so that the records can be<br />

verified and production scores calculated. The DHI<br />

sheet showing credits up through July 1 will be accepted<br />

to up-date lifetime records. It is the owner’s<br />

responsibility to supply these records including the<br />

July test sheets.<br />

Guernsey - Animals must place in the top 50% of<br />

their respective classes to compete. The exhibitor<br />

must provide a lifetime production history. A cow<br />

must have at least two completed records of 305 days<br />

or less. One of the two records used must be DHIR<br />

or DHI. An average of the top two completed 305<br />

day or less actual production records will be used.<br />

Yield Deviation (YD) on official AGA pedigrees will be<br />

used and the type appraisal scores will be verified.<br />

Dry Cows are not eligible for the Total Performance<br />

Award. This is not a lead-out class.<br />

Points will be calculated as follows:<br />

Production:<br />

-- 10 points for each 1,000 pounds of milk based<br />

on the average of the top two records.<br />

-- One point for each 10 pounds of combined<br />

butterfat and protein (CFT) based on the average<br />

of the top two records.<br />

Yield Deviation:<br />

-- 10 points for each 100 pounds of milk, one<br />

point for each pound of CFP.<br />

Appraisal Score:<br />

-- The cow’s current official appraisal score will<br />

be doubled.<br />

Show Placings:<br />

-- Points will be awarded on the basis of the official<br />

placing in the class. These points will be<br />

taken from the scale used for Premier Breeder<br />

and Premier Exhibitor and multiplied by 20 to<br />

equal show points.<br />

Breeder:<br />

-- 50 bonus points will be awarded if the exhibitor<br />

is the breeder of the animal.<br />

If a tie should exist, a lactation factor shall be<br />

applied, with 10 points being awarded for each<br />

lactation the cow has completed. A purse of<br />

$100 and a plaque will be awarded to the Total<br />

Performance Cow at each national show.<br />

Milking Shorthorn - This class will recognize a cow
