During and After An Animal is Shown
All animals are subject to examination during judging.
The judge and Ethics Committee are instructed
to examine the top five (5) animals in each class
closely for violations of the Show Ring Code of Ethics.
When a violation may have occurred, a milkout
may be called for. This call may be by breed
association rule, or by request of an authorized
representative of the national breed association, the
judge, the Ethics Committee, or show management.
If an animal is exhibited and a violation of the Show
Ring Code of Ethics is subsequently suspected,
investigated, and determined to have occurred, the
violation will be reported to the Ethics Committee
and show management for action. The Exhibitor
will be notified of the violation and the supporting
evidence and invited to defend or explain the allegations.
Violations are subject to the disciplinary provisions
of show management, the state in which the show
occurs, and the national dairy breed association.
Sanctions may include any one, or combination of
the following:
• Forfeiture or return of awards, prizes, premiums
or proceeds
• Written letter of reprimand to the owner, exhibitor,
fitter and/or absolutely responsible person
(the “Exhibitor”)
• Disqualification of the exhibition livestock from
an exhibition
• Disqualification of the Exhibitor from the show
• Publication of offense
Disqualification may include any or all shows and
classes and may be for any number of years.
ALL-AMERICAN DAIRY SHOW YOUTH SHOWMANSHIP CONTEST
SPONSORED BY:
Sunday, September 18, 2011
10:00 a.m., Large Arena
Senior Fitting, 3:00 p.m. Sale Arena
Registration will be from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Sunday, September
18 in the Large Arena.
Open to any youth who meets the age requirements. Divisions: Junior
– Age 8-11, Intermediate
– Age 12-15, Senior – Age 16-21. Age as of show day.
Previous Senior Division first place winners are not eligible to compete
another time.
Showmanship classes will be run in heats if the number of participants
warrants. Heats will be judged with the top showmen returning
for the final class. The judge will be instructed to bring back as
many good showmen in each heat as he wishes for further competition.
The top ten places in each age division will be recognized.
There will be no reasons given by the judges.
Participants must provide their own show harness. A white uniform
is preferred. Participants must secure the animal that they will
use in the showmanship portion of the contest. The animal does
not have to be their own, however, they must use the same animal
throughout the competition. Youth who bring their own animals, but
who do not wish to compete in any other contest, must call to reserve
stalls by Friday, September 2, 2011. Milking females DO NOT
have to be “bagged” for competition. Extra credit will not be given
to those who are. No bulls are permitted.
It is the responsibility of the contestant to be at ringside on time.
The first heat will begin at 10:00 a.m. Subsequent heats will begin
not less than 20 minutes after that. (i.e. 10:00, 10:20, 10:40, etc.)
However, they may take longer than 20 minutes. So, contestants
should be aware of how the show is progressing. Only the top ten
Senior Division showmanship participants will advance to the fitting
competition. The fitting phase will begin at 3:00 p.m. in the Sale
Arena. The ten finalists must report to the Sale Arena with their
equipment at 2:45 p.m.
Each Senior participant will be assigned by random drawing to a
heifer. They will have 1 (one) hour to work, fitting the heifer. Each
contestant is allowed to have one helper (aged 16-21). That helper
is to block the animal and hold the head up. There will be NO
brushing, clipping, spraying, coaching, advising, etc., by the helper.
There will also be NO interaction between contestants and the ringside
or other contestants.
At the end of the hour, a judge will evaluate the performance of the
participants and make a final decision. Winners will be announced
and recognized immediately after the fitting phase. Announcement
begins with the 10 th place down to the 1 st place.
Interpretation of rules will be by the committee whose decision will
be final.
