Health clubs for hospital brand<br />
The club offering includes a running track, functional training area and a sports café<br />
A new club, Acibadem Sports, has opened<br />
in Istanbul, Turkey. Owned by Acibadem, a<br />
leading brand in healthcare and hospitals, the<br />
4,000sq m club is nevertheless operated as an<br />
independent site for the time being.<br />
It’s split into two separate sections: a<br />
FIFA-approved sports medicine centre, and<br />
a fitness club. The wide range of facilities on<br />
offer includes a large gym, which has been<br />
equipped by Cybex – including 40 pieces of<br />
770 series CV, 20 pieces of Eagle Strength,<br />
Bravo functional trainers and free weights –<br />
alongside Concept2, Woodway and HUR’s<br />
medical strength equipment.<br />
Schwinn has equipped the indoor cycling<br />
studio, and there’s also a dedicated pilates<br />
studio equipped by Balanced Body.<br />
Other facilities include a group exercise<br />
studio, basketball and volleyball courts, a turf<br />
court, table tennis, running track, functional<br />
training area and a sports café. Treatment areas<br />
include a hypoxic training centre, cold room,<br />
spa and massage rooms.<br />
Membership costs US$1,200 a year, with<br />
Acibadem aiming to develop the high-end<br />
fitness offering to further enhance its position<br />
in the healthcare market.<br />

Bloomingdale’s, the famous<br />
US department store brand,<br />
has been involved in an<br />
innovative fitness venture.<br />
On August 20, it hosted<br />
its Fashionable Fundraiser<br />
to support amfAR, the<br />
Foundation for AIDS<br />
Research, with a pledge<br />
to make a donation of<br />
US$75,000 to the charity.<br />
Bloomingdale’s wanted to<br />
engage its customers in a<br />
physical competition to help<br />
raise money, and turned to<br />
Webracing to help organise<br />
an in-store cycling event. Cycles and screens<br />
were installed on 32 shop floors, with<br />
shoppers encouraged to compete against each<br />
other in virtual on-screen races. Four of the<br />
stores were even connected online, allowing<br />

number of prizes and discounts for riders, and<br />
