Not even a kiss?
Hale stands by the door. Steph attempts to
leave, but he catches her arm.
Steph considers the proposition. She approaches
him with caution. When she leans in to give
him a quick kiss, he wraps his arms around her
in a strangling embrace. The lights dim. As she
struggles to break free he shoves the pomegranate
to her face, smothering it against her lips
until she’s silent and cold.
Hale lets her body fall onto the bed of newspapers.
He stares numbly at first.
Then he moves, crying quietly, as he sews up
her mouth, tenderly preparing her for her own
funeral.
