3.7 Heritage
In Summary:
• 10% of the sites contained an AHIMS registered item/place or a known
cultural value. However, Aboriginal cultural heritage is not restricted to
archaeological sites and items. According to DECC (2008) “the association of
TSRs with water and the logical pathways between sources of water meant
they often coincided with traditional Aboriginal pathways and access to
streams”.
• 5% of the sites were considered to have European cultural heritage due to
them containing a local, State or Nationally listed heritage item or having the
potential for listing on the heritage register(s)
3.8 Land Degradation and Unauthorised use
In Summary:
• 14% contain evidence of erosion, salinity or soil acidification
• 7% contain major infestations of weeds
• 6% are known to, or likely to, contain contaminated land
• 5% contained litter/rubbish dumping
• 5% had evidence of other illegal activities on site, such as unregistered trail
bikes
• 2% contained sightings of feral animals
