Behind the Scenes at the<br />

Museum (Full Day Workshop)<br />

Gain firsthand experience in curating and designing an<br />

exhibition for the <strong>Palo</strong> Alto Art Center! Working closely<br />

with the <strong>Palo</strong> Alto Art Center’s staff, including the curator,<br />

installation crew, and the Art Center’s director, this class<br />

will follow the steps in curating a show from start to finish.<br />

Be a part <strong>of</strong> a blind jury process and select artworks for<br />

the exhibition, write label copy, hang the artwork in the Art<br />

Center’s meeting room, and promote the exhibition. This is a<br />

great workshop for anyone interested in art and/or working<br />

Fiber Art Techniques<br />

Art for Young Stitchers and is ready for more challenging<br />

projects We will explore weaving, felting, embroidery<br />

and then complete an independent project from what we<br />

have learned. Examples <strong>of</strong> projects may include constructing<br />

crazy quilts and creating cloth dolls. This class is for<br />

young learners who can sit still long enough to master this<br />

Still Life with Kinders<br />

It’s pretty amazing what kindergarteners can do when<br />

they’re given a chance. We’ll focus on simple, effective<br />

techniques kids can learn to improve painting fluency and<br />

then paint from life in our little studio. Kids will learn about<br />

color and close observation in a nurturing environment.<br />

Fly!<br />

Make your own feathered wings, a butterfly to fly outside,<br />

a colorful humming bird mobile, and paint watercolors <strong>of</strong><br />

dragons and Pterosaurs. Make a sculpture <strong>of</strong> a bat out <strong>of</strong><br />

clay. We will explore paper, scissor use, watercolor painting,<br />

pipe cleaner sculpture, and clay. Please note: Course location<br />

special rooms and the furniture to go in them. Learn how to<br />

plan and then make what you have planned. We’ll even learn<br />

about energy conservation and design ‘green’ houses. Young<br />

kids will get an introduction basic design and model-making<br />

same time! Children will experience a hands-on exploration<br />

<strong>of</strong> sculptural techniques while working with the theme <strong>of</strong><br />

our beautiful oceans. We will be using a variety <strong>of</strong> processes<br />

including clay molding, simple plaster casting and much<br />
