Exploring <strong>Palo</strong> Alto through<br />

Digital Photography, Section 2<br />

(All Day Workshop)<br />

Join us for a full day art camp hosted by the Recreation<br />

Department and the <strong>Palo</strong> Alto Art Center. Spend the week<br />

taking pictures <strong>of</strong> places and people in the city <strong>of</strong> <strong>Palo</strong><br />

Alto. Learn about the fundamentals <strong>of</strong> digital photography,<br />

including composition, lighting, perspective, contrast, color,<br />

portraiture and motion, while you are out shooting in the<br />

field. Each morning, kids will take photographs at various<br />

sites around <strong>Palo</strong> Alto. In the afternoons, camp will be<br />

held in the computer lab at The Drop at Cubberley Community<br />

Center, where kids will use Photoshop to enhance,<br />

manipulate and finish digital images. At the end <strong>of</strong> the<br />

week, choose your favorite pictures and create a portfolio<br />

AFTERNOON<br />

Plaster Casting<br />

Learn the intriguing process <strong>of</strong> plaster casting! Students<br />

will create two-part plaster molds from everyday objects<br />

and hand-crafted objects made out <strong>of</strong> clay. Once the mold<br />

is complete, students will make multiple positive casts <strong>of</strong><br />

the objects. Students will also combine their objects to<br />

make more complex sculptures and artistic installations.<br />

On the last day <strong>of</strong> class we will have a group show to share<br />

and showcase our artistic accomplishments. Students will<br />

come away with a deep appreciation <strong>of</strong> traditional sculptural<br />

techniques and contemporary practices. Instructor:<br />

This fun class will teach students basic mechanical<br />

safe and fun way for your girl or boy to learn basic skills and<br />

MORNING<br />

Artist’s Books and Papermaking<br />

Make your own paper with local plants, flowers and various<br />

recycled materials, and bind the pages using a simple pamphlet<br />

stich, which we then can paint, draw, or collage. Kids<br />

will be amazed to learn that they can make beautiful artist’s<br />

with other media such as printmaking and sculpture.<br />

Advanced Digital Photography<br />

develop your shooting skills and learn more advanced<br />

studio techniques, including lighting. Each morning, kids<br />

will take photographs at various sites around <strong>Palo</strong> Alto. In<br />

the afternoons, camp will be held in the computer lab at the<br />

Teen Center at Cubberley Community Center, where kids<br />

will use Photoshop to enhance, manipulate, and finish digital<br />

images. Prerequisite: This class is intended for students<br />

who have previous experience with digital photography. The<br />

class is open to all students who completed Exploring <strong>Palo</strong><br />

Alto through Digital Photography in summer 2012. Other<br />

interested students should submit a small photography portfolio<br />

(5 images) or letter <strong>of</strong> recommendation to artcenter@<br />
