Sezar Roma’dan bildiriyor!
Tıpkı, gazetenin tarihçesindeki
en önemli kilometre taşı
niteliğindeki Roma gazetesi
gibi! O gazete, M.Ö. 59
yılında Roma’da konsül Julius
Ceasar’ın önayak olmasıyla
Senato tarafından çıkartılmaya
başlayan ‘Acta Diurna’ idi.
Yani Latince anlamıyla ‘Günlük
Faaliyetler’. Gazete yaklaşık
2000 kopya olarak hazırlanır
ve imparatorluğun değişik
köşelerine dağıtılırdı. O dönemde
okuma yazma bilenler parmakla
gösterildiği için, gazetenin verdiği
haberleri çevresine aktarmak da o
kişilere düşerdi. Ulaşım zorlukları
nedeniyle, ‘Günlük Faaliyetler’
gazetesi doğal olarak haftalar
öncesinin haberlerini duyururdu.
Yine de o dönemde bu, ‘çok
taze bilgi’ demekti. Fethedilen
topraklar; örneğin -magazin
sayfalarında Kleopatra’dan söz
edilir miydi, kimbilir!- Mısır en
gözde dış haberlerdendi. Siyasi
gelişmeler ve toplumsal olaylar
da yer alırdı gazetede, ama
kuşkusuz Roma Senatosu’nun
‘merceğinden’ geçmiş halde!
Ve ‘Acta Diurna’nın en gözde
bölümü.. Bugünkü deyimle
söyleyelim: Spor sayfası!

İşte bu dev adım,
gazetelerin, dergilerin hızla
gelişmesini sağladı. Yine de,
‘süreli’ yani belli zamanlarda
ve düzenli olarak yayınlanan
gazeteler için daha 2 yüzyıl
beklemek gerekti.

Just as the Roman newspaper
which is the most
important milestone
in the history of
the newspaper!
That newspaper
was ‘Acta Diurna’
which was
published by the
Senate in 59BC
with the initiatives
of council Julius
Cesar. The title in
Latin translated as
‘Daily Activities’. 2000
copies of the newspaper
would be prepared
and distributed to
different corners of
the empire. As there
were only a few people
who could read and write
during that period,
it was their duty to
relay the news in the
newspaper to people around them.
Because of difficulties with
transportation, ‘Daily Activities’
newspaper would naturally give
the news from weeks ago. But still,
that meant ‘fresh news’ in that
era. Land conquered; Egypt was
one of the most favourite foreign
news, for instance, -who knows
is Cleopatra was mentioned in
the magazine pages!-. Political
developments and social events
would also be in the newspaper,
but after it has been through ‘the
magnifying glass’ of the Roman
Senate, no doubt!
And now, the most favourite
section of ‘Acta Diurna’... With
today’s phrase: The sports page!
The results of the gladiator fights
in Rome were the most interesting
section for the readers and
listeners alike.
‘Firsts’ in newspaper history
The newspaper kept its presence
with similar examples in the
centuries that followed. But in
order to appear in its current
format, the ‘inevitable’ step had
to be taken. The invention of the
printing press in 15 th century.
This giant step aided newspapers,
magazines to spread rapidly. But
still there was a wait of another 2
centuries for newspapers printed
at certain times and published
regularly.
