Viscount Long, who was not a Freemason.<br />

title on the death, 23 Sep 1944, <strong>of</strong> his nephew, Walter Francis David Long, 2 nd Viscount Long, as 3 rd Viscount Long,<br />

was initiated, aged 29, 18 Sep 1922, passed and raised in Chaloner L. No. 2644, Melksham, Wiltshire, membership<br />

ceasing, 1933. When the 3 rd Viscount died, the title devolved on his 2 nd son, The Hon. Richard Gerard Long (30 Jan<br />

1929– ), as 4 th and present Viscount Long, CBE, who is a Freemason.<br />

His 2 nd brother, Richard Godolphin Walmesley Chaloner, formerly Long (12 Oct 1856–23 Jan 1938), created,<br />

1917, 1 st Baron Gisborough, was initiated 1876, joined 9 or 10 and founded 4 Ls.; exalted 1878 and joined 2 and<br />

founded 2 RA chapters; Prov Rank in 3 Craft Provinces; SGD, UGLE, 1899; JGW, 1921.<br />

His nephew, Thomas Weston Peel Long Chaloner, TD, JP (6 May 1889–11 Feb 1951), later [1938] 2 nd Baron<br />

Gisborough, was also a Freemason.<br />

His 3 rd brother, Robert Chaloner Critchley Long, JP, DL (4 Sep 1858–5 Oct 1938), was initiated 1886, L. <strong>of</strong><br />

Loyalty No. 1533, Marlborough, resigning 26 Jun 1888. Joined 4 Ls.. ProvSGD, Wiltshire, 1922; PProvSGW,<br />
