Married at Northumberland House, 29 Apr 1817, Lady Charlotte Florentia Clive (1787–1866), 2 nd dau <strong>of</strong> Edward<br />

Clive, 1 st Earl <strong>of</strong> Powis (<strong>of</strong> 1804 and present creation) (1754–1839), and his wife Lady Henrietta Antonia Herbert<br />

(1830), dau <strong>of</strong> Henry Arthur Herbert, 1 st Earl <strong>of</strong> Powis (<strong>of</strong> 1748 creation) (c.1703–1772), but they had no children.<br />

Died at Alnwick Castle aged 61 and bur in Westminster Abbey, 23 Feb 1847, when the titles devolved on his only<br />

surviving brother, Algernon Percy, Baron Prudhoe, FRS, FSA (1792–1865), as 4 th Duke <strong>of</strong> Northumberland, later KG,<br />

PC.<br />

physician, eldest son <strong>of</strong> John Petit (b. 1714) <strong>of</strong> Little Aston Hall, Shenstone, Staffordshire.<br />

Educ at Queens’ Coll, Cambridge (BA 1792; MA 1799); admitted, 2 Apr 1791, Lincoln’s Inn and studied in the<br />

chambers <strong>of</strong> Charles Abbott (1762–1832), later [1818] LCJ, King’s Bench, then [1827] Baron Tenterden; called to<br />

Bar 1801 and practised on Chester and North Wales Circuit; MP, Ripon, 1827–32. Book collector, especially<br />

philological books. Buried in Highgate Cemetery.<br />
