<strong>Step</strong> 2. Obtain <strong>CMDB</strong> Knowledge<br />
Task 2. Review <strong>CMDB</strong> Solution Map<br />
After key members have attended ITIL foundation training (preferably ITIL V3), the team should<br />
review and ensure common understanding of the primary components of a <strong>CMDB</strong> solution<br />
before they scope additional education requirements. If you have in-house experts for specific<br />
solution functions, then that will reduce the scope of <strong>CMDB</strong> education required <strong>by</strong> the team.<br />
The <strong>CMDB</strong> solution market is maturing, but vendors may not all share a common vocabulary.<br />
Be sure to categorize solution elements <strong>by</strong> basic function so you can prevent terminology<br />
confusion. Figure 2.2 shows the core elements of a modern CMS to allow for better visualization<br />
and decision process of all the data the <strong>CMDB</strong> manages. Note that this figure aligns with the<br />
Data-Information-Knowledge-Wisdom (DIKW) methodology discussed in ITIL V3.<br />
