BY JON PAOLO AMADOR TED NUDGENT TAC-AN SIDES The struggles of a performing artist and an exemplary student THE BEGINNING Wearing elegant make-up, high heels, and a sexy top paired with skinny jeans, Ted entered the stage as Thalia Marimar, a beautiful and hardworking woman. With great skill and talent, he perfectly exuded feminine qualities that won over the crowd. “Performing is my passion,” Ted said. He first entered the stage when he was still a freshman. He performed for the Welcoming Day of their batch, and also for the CHED visitation which was attended by the commissioners and school principals from all over Misamis Occidental. “It was an achievement to become a front line performer during my early years in La Salle,” he added. Since then, he stayed committed and fell more in love with the Performing Arts. THE PRICE TO PAY Ted admitted he struggled with hectic schedules before. “It was a bit difficult at first, after learning different lessons from each of my subjects I had to rush to the theater room for rehearsals.” When asked about the adjustment 18 tingogmagazine
he had to make, Ted answered, “I had to manage my time well for both my academics and for the Teatro Guindegan, so I spent every 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for rehearsals. The rest of my free times were going to researching and studying lessons.” Ted also shared that during classes he would see to it that he really understood the lessons discussed so that he didn’t have to study much. “It’s not true that extracurricular organizations would put your academics at stake. It would actually help you realize great lessons in life,” Ted stressed. The stage is my inspiration. As what we believe in Teatro Guindegan, the hidden sanctuary of our emotions and feelings is the stage where we perform. - Ted Tac-an ies,” he said. He was also appointed as the stage manager of the Teatro Guindegan. He is serving the organization to choreograph dances, direct plays and ensure that each member remains committed to the organization. “It is my job to meet the expectations of these talented and intelligent members and at the same time maintain good relationship among members of the organization,” Ted affirmed. THE BEST PART “I consider attending to prestigious theater workshops nationwide and meeting famous theater directors as my greatest achievements as a performing artist,” Ted explained. The group rehearsed two short plays, “See you Later” and “The White Cloth”, WINNING THE STRUGGLE Despite the difficulties he encountered, Ted managed to become an honor student for three consecutive school years. “It was a great pleasure because despite the hustles of my busy schedule I still managed to focus on my studwhich were written and directed by Ted. The plays were performed in front of 15 well-known theater icons and directors. “It’s a blessing to be a performing artist, that’s why I’m doing my best so that my works will also be a blessing to my audience.” THE END It was a great honor to speak with such a talented and smart person like Ted. Out from the experiences and struggles that he had gone through, he demonstrated an icon of excellence. He fought for his passion - performing. On top of that, he managed to be an outstanding student. In life, there will always be struggles, especially in doing things we love. But it is up to us whether we choose to play it safe, or take risks and learn great lessons in life which will never be learned from books. tingogmagazine 19
