I want to build my own name, and I want to discover who really I am. -IAN KIT BANDALA Hectic schedules, and academic commitments are the common things a college student usually encounters. It is because college life differs a lot from high school life. During high school days, we used to participate in any activities especially in the field of sports. Fact that there are exemptions from classes in those days. But now, there’s no exemption anymore yet we can have benefits from it. What is really meant by being sporty and academically active Well, being sporty means a person who develops sportsmanship and passion in sports. They are students who have the potential and passion, and join in the varsity team to enhance their skills and be disciplined. On the other hand, academically active students are those committed students who devote themselves only on studying lessons so that they can excel in the academics. Why not we combine them together A sporty and academically active! Is there really a person who has both A humble yet talented volleyball player with good body built is Mr. Ian Kit Bandala, a 2nd year regular student from the College of Accountancy. He was a trainee for one semester and later became a varsity player in the men’s volleyball. He divided his time accordingly. He should have time for practices during MWF (3-5 PM). According to Ian, he considers trials and obstacles as inevitable things as human beings. His father’s death last year gave a big blow on him. His only inspiration and motivation of his career was his father. According to him, there was a time that he doubted if he will still continue being a varsity player because he lost his inspiration. Yet with God’s help, he still continued his passion for his brother instead. His brother was also a well-known player of basketball when he was still at college. Many people asked him why he chose volleyball when his brother was a basketball star. He just answered, “I want to build my own name, and I want to discover who I really am. I admit that I am encountering hurdles in playing such sport because I considered myself before as a weak person but I was wrong. I discovered that I have the potential and the ability. Thus, constant practice makes everything perfect.” Ian believes that all of us have the potential in making all things possible. So, if you believe that you have the capacity then go for it, grab it. La Salle University (LSU) is an institution which offers an avenue for you to showcase what you have. Grab every opportunity which is offered and work hard for it. it really pays a lot to persevere for your passion. tingogmagazine 27
