Aims Pimlico's primary aims are: to educate each student to the very best of his or her ability; to enable all students to achieve academic and social excellence, and to value every student's worth. We wish to consolidate and expand our reputation as a centre of excellence for arts provision and teaching, as reflected by our status as a Visual and Performing Arts College. We strive for a secure environment in the school, which gives students self-confidence and makes them responsible for themselves and towards others. Our motto is ‘Attain, achieve, experience’ and we strive to ensure that all our students can fulfill to these aspirations. Location and facilities Pimlico School will benefit from being the only complete rebuild school in Westminster as part of the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) initiative. This work should commence in January 2008 and be completed by September 2010. We are looking forward to having state of the art, fit for purpose facilities which will support the delivery of a full range of teaching and learning activities. During the building programme teaching and learning will continue on our site with the full curriculum being delivered as normal. The school is likely to re-open as an Academy in September 2008. The new Academy will have a sponsor who will take the lead role in leading and improving the school in coming years. The school will continue to be an all-ability, mixed comprehensive school providing places on a secular basis to local children. The incoming sponsor will continue the school’s current specialisms and further develop them whilst adding one further specialism, yet to be agreed. More information will be available on the school’s progress and Academy status during the autumn of 2007 and will be available on the school’s web site.

A wide range of additional academic, vocational and leisure subjects are offered at GCSE. We have a highly successful sixth form with several successful Oxbridge candidates each year. Through the Westminster 6F partnership, sixth form students have access to an enhanced curriculum offer of academic and vocational courses. Many of our Year 11 students continue their studies into the sixth form, which is also heavily oversubscribed by external candidates. Inclusion/Special needs Pimlico School has a department dedicated to Learning Support, led by a Special Education Needs Coordinator who also co-ordinates the work of specialist support agencies and the provision required by students with Statements of Special Educational Need. Linking home and school Parents are invited into the school for a variety of different meetings. These include academic review days, where parents have the opportunity to discuss progress across the curriculum with the form tutors; subject based parents evenings, information evenings and specific meetings as required with a variety of different members of staff. Pastoral care The positive atmosphere in the school ensures that students and staff work hard and give of their best. Pimlico School is organised on a year basis. Each Year 7 student is placed in a tutor group, and Form Tutors move through the school with their students. This ensures that students and tutors come to know each other well, with the Tutor and Director of Learning providing a valuable link between the school and parents. Students are expected to wear a school uniform (blue sweatshirt and polo shirt bearing the school logo, dark trousers / skirt, jewellery is not permitted in school). In addition, for Physical Education, all students need to wear a red sweatshirt and t-shirt. Logo items need to be purchased from the school. Our Behaviour Policy focuses on reconciliation and restorative justice. We believe it is important that students and staff are given an opportunity to discuss issues as and when they arise to enable all parties to move forward. Pimlico School and the arts Pimlico School is particularly well known for the quality of its arts provision. We were awarded Artsmark Gold in 2007. We were awarded Visual and Performing Arts status in September 2005. There is a wealth of projects and opportunities offered to Pimlico students, incorporating a range of art forms: dance, art, drama, music and design. We have a new Drama Centre to accommodate dance and drama, we have converted an art room into an art / ICT, area and we have built a recording studio to address the growing number of students studying Music Technology. These are just three examples of the changes we have been able to make with the funds from our new status. Specialist Musicians Scheme This is a scheme which allows students who are musically gifted (though not necessarily knowledgeable) to receive specialist tuition and training in an environment which develops and promotes their musical skills, education and experience. This is complemented by a mainstream education in Pimlico School, which allows these talented musicians early entry into a number of GCSEs, including Music.
