Application forms are available from all <strong>Westminster</strong><br />

schools or from Pupil Benefits. If your child attends<br />

a <strong>Westminster</strong> school, you should apply on a<br />

<strong>Westminster</strong> form regardless of where you live.<br />

Entitlements are reviewed yearly and parents are<br />

responsible for ensuring that applications are renewed<br />

every year.<br />

Education Maintenance Allowances (EMA) are available<br />

to Year 12 & 13 pupils whose parents’ income is below<br />

£30,810. Pupils can apply for an allowance of between<br />

£10 - £30 per week, with the potential to earn a bonus<br />

at certain points during their course. Forms are<br />

available directly from the school or by phoning the<br />

help line number 080 8101 6219 or downloaded from<br />

the website www.direct.gov.uk/ema<br />

There are residency restrictions on EMA. Young<br />

people who are not eligible for an EMA (on grounds<br />

of residency) can apply for a Learner Support Grant.<br />

Enquiries for a Learner Support Grant should be made<br />

on 020 7641 1842/1843.<br />

If your son or daughter will be studying in a college of<br />

further education or a sixth form college, he/she may<br />

qualify for assistance from Access Funds and should<br />

enquire at the college for further details.<br />

In September 2006, Transport for London introduced<br />

travel concessions for 16-18 year olds, allowing young<br />

people to travel free on buses and trams and to benefit<br />

from reduced travel costs on the tube. Forms are<br />

available from schools in September. The cost of the<br />

oyster card is £5.<br />
