of the model <strong>and</strong> the trans<strong>for</strong>mation are described in Appendix A. The trans<strong>for</strong>med<br />

space, shown in Fig. 3.6(a), enables a robust detection of dark <strong>and</strong> light skin tone<br />

colors. Figure 3.6(b) shows the projection of the 3D skin cluster in the trans<strong>for</strong>med<br />

C b -C r color subspace, on which the elliptical model of skin color is overlaid. Figure 3.7<br />

shows examples of detection using the nonlinear trans<strong>for</strong>mation. More skin-tone pixels<br />

with low <strong>and</strong> high luma are detected in this trans<strong>for</strong>med subspace than in the<br />

C b C r subspace.<br />
