<strong>16</strong>.02.120 Modifications to the code. The county council hereby declares that amendments,<br />

additions, deletions, and administrative rules are necessary to modify and clarify the code for its<br />

application in <strong>King</strong> <strong>County</strong>. Such modifications and administrative rules shall be prepared by the director,<br />

and, in the case of modifications, adopted by the council, they shall be codified within this chapter or in the<br />

case of administrative rules, as specified in K.C.C. 2.98. These codes, modifications, and administrative<br />

rules constitute county regulation for any activity subject to the code. The director shall make the adopted<br />

modifications and administrative rules readily available at reasonable cost to persons performing any<br />

<strong>16</strong>.02.130 Modifications adopted. The <strong>King</strong> <strong>County</strong> modifications to the 2006 editions of the<br />

International Building Code, International Residential Code for One- and Two-Family Dwellings,<br />

International Mechanical Code, International Property Maintenance Code, and the Security Code are<br />

adopted as part of the code. (Ord. 17191 § 2, 2011: Ord. 15802 § 2, 2007: Ord. 14914 § 7, 2004: Ord.<br />

14111 § 5, 2001: Ord. 12560 § 4, 1996: Ord. 10608 § 3, 1992. Formerly K.C.C. <strong>16</strong>.04.050).<br />

<strong>16</strong>.02.135 International Mechanical Code - Administration. Chapter 1 of the International<br />

Mechanical Code is not adopted and Chapter 1 of the International Building Code as amended and<br />

supplemented in this chapter is substituted. (Ord. 15802 § 3, 2007).<br />

<strong>16</strong>.02.140 International Residential Code - Administration. Chapter 1 of the International<br />

Residential Code for One- and Two-Family Dwellings is not adopted and Chapter 1 of the International<br />

Building Code as amended and supplemented in this chapter is substituted. (Ord. 14914 § 8, 2004).<br />

<strong>16</strong>.02.150 General - <strong>Title</strong>. Section 101.1 of the International Building Code is not adopted and<br />

the following is substituted:<br />

<strong>Title</strong> (IBC 101.1). These regulations shall be known as the Building Codes of <strong>King</strong> <strong>County</strong>.<br />

These codes are the International Building Code (IBC), the International Residential Code for One- and<br />

Two-Family Dwellings (IRC) and the International Mechanical Code (IMC). (Ord. 15802 § 4, 2007: Ord.<br />

14914 § 9, 2004).<br />

<strong>16</strong>.02.152 General - Scope. Section 101.2 of the International Building Code is not adopted and<br />

the following is substituted:<br />

Scope (IBC 101.2). The provisions of this code shall apply to the construction, alteration,<br />

movement, enlargement, replacement, repair, equipment, use and occupancy, location, maintenance,<br />

removal and demolition of every building or structure or any appurtenances connected or attached to such<br />

buildings or structures.<br />

EXCEPTIONS:<br />

1. The provisions of the International Residential Code for One- and Two-Family Dwellings shall<br />

apply to the construction, alteration, movement, enlargement, replacement, repair, equipment, use and<br />

occupancy, location, removal and demolition of detached one- and two-family dwellings and multiple<br />

single-family dwellings (townhouses) not more than three stories in height with a separate means of<br />

egress and their accessory structures, including adult family homes, foster family care homes and family<br />

day care homes licensed by the Washington state department of social and health services<br />

2. The provisions of the International Residential Code for One- and Two-Family Dwellings shall<br />

apply to detached residential accessory structures that are used for home occupations and home<br />

industries that include offices, mercantile, food preparation for off-site consumption, personal care salons<br />

and similar uses, if the home occupation or home industry is subordinate to the primary residential use of<br />

the site and the total cumulative floor area devoted to the home occupation or home industry in all<br />

detached accessory structures on-site is less than or equal to 500 square feet (46.4m2).<br />

3. The provisions of the International Mechanical Code shall regulate the design, installation,<br />

maintenance, alteration and inspection of mechanical systems that are permanently installed and utilized<br />

to provide control of the environmental conditions and related processes within buildings. This code shall<br />

also regulate those mechanical systems, system components, equipment and appliances specifically<br />

addressed herein. The installation of fuel gas distribution piping and equipment, fuel gas-fired appliances<br />

and fuel gas-fired appliance venting systems shall be regulated by the International Fuel Gas Code. (Ord.<br />

15802 § 5, 2007).<br />

<strong>16</strong>.02.<strong>16</strong>0 Applicability – Referenced Codes and Standards. Section 102.4 of the<br />

International Building Code is not adopted and the following is substituted:
