Part V: Conclusion
The results from this study illuminate an array of socio-cultural and structural barriers to
help-seeking for Tanzanian women who experience gender-based violence. As a result of
these barriers, few women seek or receive appropriate support services. In response, the
current research has developed a set of recommendations based on participants’ input and
data analysis to improve the response to GBV across all sectors and all levels of
government. It is hoped that the findings will inform the efforts of the CHAMPION Project,
other PEPFAR implementing partners, and the Government of Tanzania as they work
together to design an effective, empirically-based strategy for increasing the availability,
quality, and utilization of GBV services in Dar es Salaam, Iringa, and Mbeya.
