51 Technology program (which follows on from the Higher Diploma in Mechatronics Engineering Technology) is to prepare students for positions as Engineers in the industrial maintenance, manufacturing and plant sectors. Expertise acquired in Higher Diploma studies is enriched and extended to include the applied design, development and implementation of computer-based intelligence to mechatronics and electromechanical systems, and the supervision of related technical activities and projects. Masters (MS) in Education Management and Policy Higher Colleges of Technology/Deakin University Australia, Dual Degree This flexible program offers postgraduate study in Education for qualified teachers and is conducted in the familiar, secure, and well-equipped environments of HCT campuses. It is open to all eligible members of the education community, both Emirati and expatriate. The new dual degree meets the needs of a new generation of qualified and aspirational Emiratis, as well as expatriate teachers in the UAE, by engaging important contemporary issues in education in a way that is locally relevant and culturally appropriate. Key features of the Dual Degree Masters in Education program: • The structure of this particular dual degree draws on the reciprocal strengths of both partners - the units/modules of each institution are matched and sequenced to make the most of the strengths of the respective partners • Students undertake six Deakin Masters of Education units and six HCT Master of Education Management and Policy units, resulting in eligibility for both Masters awards after 18–24 months study. • Students successfully completing the dual degree will possess two Masters degrees, one internationally recognized and one locally recognized, for less time and expense than if they were to undertake two such courses separately (in fact, for a similar total cost to other local M.Ed. programs). It will normally take a student 18 months - 2 years to complete to complete the dual degree, depending on the number of units undertaken per trimester. Entry requirements Admission to graduate studies is on a rolling basis. All documents submitted to HCT in support of an application shall become the property of HCT and will not be returned to the applicant. As the Masters of Education Management and Policy program is a dual award (a Masters of Educational Management and from HCT and a Master of Education from Deakin University, Australia) students will complete this application process to be accepted by both HCT and Deakin University.
52 H I G H E R C O L L E G E S O F T E C H N O L O G Y The requirements for admission are based on a combination of academic and professional criteria. Applicants must satisfy all the admission requirements before they can start the program. To be admitted to a graduate program, normally the candidate must: 1. Hold a Bachelor’s degree or its academic equivalent from a UAE recognized institution/program with a minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4, or its equivalent, in his/her undergraduate studies. Completion of a four-year undergraduate degree. 2. Submit proof of English proficiency: Entry requires IELTS 6.5 or equivalent*; however, graduates of the HCT B.Ed. should note they gain automatic entry to this program as they have completed a 4 year degree in the medium of English. * Postgraduate applicants to the HCT-Deakin Dual Degree program must demonstrate their competence in English by providing certified/notarized documentary evidence of one of the following. Unless otherwise stated, applicants must have satisfied the University’s minimum postgraduate English requirements no more than two years preceding the date of their enrolment. Note: To facilitate the prompt handling of your application, it is recommended that you contact Dr. Patrick Dougherty, Chair of Graduate Programs - Education, prior to visiting a HCT site with your documents. Inform him of the location, date, and approximate time that you will visit one of the designated HCT Academic Service centers. He may be contacted via e-mail at patrick.dougherty@hct.ac.ae CERT-Work Readiness Program (WRP) The WRP program is designed to assist nationals with varied educational achievements to secure job opportunities, primarily within the private sector. This program provides training in basic skills in English, Arabic, Computer, Mathematics and workplace skills. There is also a work experience component; thereby, providing opportunities for students to apply their skills and adapt to the world of employment. It equips participating nationals with the necessary skills to enter the job market and provide opportunities to build their future careers. Increasingly, companies accepting students for work placement have provided students with full time employment opportunities upon completion of the program. HCT/CERT is uniquely situated to provide a bilingual educational/vocational program resulting in a certificate diploma from the Ministry of Higher Education with a salary scale of (4/2) to ensure a career enhancement.
