57 COLLEGE RULES AND PROCEDURES The main college expectation for students of the college is to “smile and ask questions.” Being positive and inquiring when uncertain is a formula for success. The college has some set guidelines for students to ensure the safety, wellbeing, and positive environment for all. The code of conduct addresses such expectations. Each student has the responsibility to learn and commit to abiding by the following to the best of his or her ability as long as he/she is enrolled. STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT I, ........................................................................................................................................................... , as a responsible student of Madinat Zayed and Ruwais Colleges hereby agree to follow the code of conduct while I am studying at the college. I understand that in college, on the buses and when in the community I am a representative of the college and must be an example of the college’s high standards. I am aware that in addition to this code of conduct, there are attendance guidelines, bus rules, and food/eating expectations with further details available for my benefit. As per the code of conduct, I agree that I will: 1. SUPPORT LEARNING: To support learning I will: a. Respect the learning of my fellow students: Never disturb another class or classmate when they are learning b. Maintain a quiet atmosphere at all times: Always have my mobile phone on silent and not use it or during class c. Positively engage in my lessons: Only work on my laptop when it is required by my teacher d. Seek appropriate support: Raise any concerns I have with my teachers or student representatives before taking matters up with management e. Be punctual: Attend every class on my timetable and arrive on time for each lesson f. Be honest: Never engage in cheating, copying another’s work, or academic dishonesty 2. BE A GOOD EXAMPLE: To be a good example I will: a. Use the internet responsibly: Never visit inappropriate sites or chat rooms on my laptop b. Be tidy: Always leave my classroom or workplace how I would like to find it c. Respect college property: Take special care of all college equipment and property, including laptops d. Be a positive role model: Behave well in class, concentrate and stay in class when I am supposed to, act in a grown-up way in the corridors, make use of the library and other learning areas e. Represent myself and the college positively: Portray a positive image of myself as a student and the college to all those I meet outside. Represent the college to the best of my ability when outside the college. f. Be Respectful of others: Behave in a professional manner with teachers, fellow students and college visitors at all times

No selling of items on campus except as part of a project approved by management. No food or drink in the classrooms h. Be a responsible member of the college community: Always bring my HCT ID to college and on college trips, always bring my books and equipment to college, always have my laptop ready and charged when needed and closed when it is not needed. 3. RESPECT ALL PEOPLE: To show respect I will: a. Always respect others’ boundaries/privacy: Never take a photograph or audio or video recording of anyone in the college without their consent b. Monitor my communication style: Always speak respectfully to others and never raise my voice c. Treat everyone equally: Not treat college workers with disrespect d. Honor my time commitments: Inform my teacher or supervisor, if I am going to be absent or late for any reason e. Show you can be trusted: If I commit to join a trip, I must attend. f. Respect others’ need for quiet: Only play music when wearing headphones 4. CREATE A POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR ALL: To help create a positive environment that enhances my safety and wellbeing I will: a. Always obey bus rules while on college transportation: Only ride the designated bus at authorized stops, and not bring non-students onto the bus b. Ensure that visitors to the colleges will only be invited with permission from the Director in advance and will be approved on the basis of educational purposes. All approved visitors must report to reception. c. Maintain Order: Always follow the instructions of any college staff at college or on college trips d. Support my Student Council members and class representatives e. Maintain professional boundaries: Never offer gifts (of any kind, individually, or as part of a group) to staff f. Keep college clean: Never eat or drink in the classrooms, libraries, ILC, and conference rooms g. Save the environment: Switch off lights and air conditioners when you can. h. Save trees: Don’t use paper. Don’t print. i. Avoid dangerous driving and parking: Drive slowly and park correctly j. Keep safe: No smoking in buildings. k. Keep the air healthy: No bakhour on college grounds or busses. l. Avoid fire danger: No charcoal or cooking fires m. Avoid electrical danger: No hairdryers, kettles, heaters or other electrical equipment. Student Handbook - 2012-2013
