Various resources are available in the new Assistive Technology Resource Centers (ATLRC) to facilitate learning and academic engagement for students with various difficulties or physical challenges. The ATLRC is open during college hours and the resources may be used on campus or borrowed as needed. Some therapy services for psychological conditions of emotional issues associated with the special needs are available. Student Council The Student Council consists of students from the men’s and women’s colleges. The male and female student council members are elected by their respective student bodies. At the end of each academic year, students submit nominations and engage in voting process for the positions below: ➲➲President ➲➲Vice President ➲➲Treasurer ➲➲Student Services Representative ➲➲Media and Public Relations Representative ➲➲Events Coordinator ➲➲Sports and Events Coordinator ➲➲Secretary Under the guidance of a Student Council advisor, Student Council members serve as links between the students and the college management. Student Council members also work closely with class representatives. Class representatives are selected by students and faculty from each college section to carry the voice of the students to the Student Council members. In addition to representing the needs of the student body to the college administration, Student Council members represent the Colleges’ at community events, assume leadership roles in organizing college activities, plan leadership development and enrichment opportunities for the student body, as well as work to enhance the college spirit amongst the students. Student ID Cards For all new students, after working with Academic Services to ensure enrolment is complete and an ID number is generated, Student Services will print and issue college ID cards. You will need a valid Student ID Card to access: ➲➲College campus ➲➲Examinations ➲➲Library and Learning Center
70 H I G H E R C O L L E G E S O F T E C H N O L O G Y ➲➲Transport services ➲➲Use other College facilities or services, e.g. the canteen The ID card will be valid for as long as you remain a student. The card must be returned to the college if you withdraw or discontinue your studies for any reason. You must show your ID card to security or college staff when requested. If you lose your ID card, a replacement card will be issued for a charge. Students with special circumstances may be given a “Flexible Leave Card” or “green card” which allows them to leave the college without supervisory permission; all others must speak with their Academic Supervisor and student affairs if they are requesting to leave while classes are in session. Transportation / Bus Services The students at Madinat Zayed Colleges and Ruwais Colleges come from as far away as Al Sila or Al Mirfa. This service is currently provided free of charge to all students who abide by the bus rules, and agree to pick up times and locations available. Rules below are in place to ensure that travel to and from college occurs in an orderly and safe manner. Bus Rules of Conduct ➲➲Students will wait for the bus at the designated times and places, or inform the bus monitor or driver if they will not be present. ➲➲Students will board the bus promptly when the bus arrives. ➲➲Students will get off the bus at the agreed upon location; i.e. their home or pre-designated stop.
