substrates did not cause enzyme productions as<br />
high as wheat bran. Therefore, wheat bran has<br />
been superior to other solid substrates for the<br />
synthesis <strong>of</strong> á-amylase from Humicola<br />
lanuginosa by solid state fermentation. The<br />
maximum productivity <strong>of</strong> á-amylase (356 U/g)<br />
was achieved by utilizing wheat bran as the solid<br />
substrate with soluble starch as an additional<br />
carbon source in 144 h at temperature 50 0 C <strong>and</strong><br />
moisture content <strong>of</strong> 90%, pH <strong>of</strong> 6, <strong>and</strong> inoculum<br />
level <strong>of</strong> 20 % (w/v). Although the results <strong>of</strong> these<br />
investigations are based on experiments<br />
conducted in flasks, they provide valuable<br />
information for the production <strong>of</strong> á-amylase by<br />
solid state fermentation process at a larger scale.<br />
