The department's residents receive inpatient and outpatient training in a wide variety of medical and surgical general and subspecialty services with additional training in nutrition prenatal care, family systems psychosocial evaluation and the care of HIV infected patients. The three year program includes training in inpatient services including subspecialty electives, a broad spectrum of medical conferences, outpatient clinical experiences and the innovative primary care curriculum of ambulatory morning rounds, clinical Epidemiology courses, behavioral medicine, community oriented primary care, and health and human rights. 66
SOCIAL PEDIATRICS 3544 Jerome Ave. Residency Program Director Philip Ozuah, MD 718-920-5521 The pediatric residency program emphasizes training in continuity care for inner-city infants and children. The three year program includes training in inpatient services for newborns, infants, children and adolescents and outpatient care in emergency services and primary care in a community practice site. MEDICINE The Department of Medicine is the largest department at at Montefiore Medical Center, the University Hospital of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AECOM). Two campuses provide a full range of services to patients and are a major teaching and research resource in the Bronx. The Moses and Weiler sites train one-half of each AECOM class in Internal Medicine, and 155 Internal Medicine residents in the categorical, preliminary, primary care, and social internal medicine residency programs. Strong subspecialty programs contribute to patient care, provide consultative support to the House Staff, and provide excellent training for over 100 fellows. The house staff and fellows also rotate through Jacobi Hospital, and some Fellows rotate through North Central Bronx hospital, both part of the Health & Hospital Corporations (NYC) System. Approximately 230 full-time and a number of voluntary faculty members provide supervision of the residents and students and participate in the teaching activities of the programs. Between them, the Moses and Weiler sites provide care to a daily census of over 400 Internal Medicine inpatients and to an ever-increasing number of outpatient patients around the Bronx. The Department also provides a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic services including: Cardiac Catheterization, Interventional Angioplasty, Echocardiography, Holter Monitoring, Stress Testing, Renal Dialysis, GI Endoscopy, Pulmonary Function Studies, Diabetes care, and Diabetes education and consultation.
