New York, 1914). More recent popular accounts are
C. H. Lawall, The Curious Lore of Drugs and Medicine
(New York, 1937), and M. M. Silverman, Magic in a
Bottle (New York, 1941). Later history of patent medicines
may be followed in Nostrums and Quackery (two
volumes, edited by Arthur J. Cramp, Chicago, 1912,
1921), the American Medical Association's reprints of a
series of articles which appeared in Collier's in 1905.
