Determine need<br />
for mapping<br />
Perform field<br />
mapping. Gather GPS<br />
waypoints, take<br />
compass readings,<br />
record features of<br />
importance with input<br />
from community<br />
Interview community<br />
members about goals of<br />
mapping and what<br />
information should be<br />
collected; gather<br />
background info. such as<br />
existing maps<br />
Assemble draft map.<br />
Input GIS data,<br />
assemble base map<br />
layers (topographic<br />
maps, rivers, roads,<br />
etc.), add labels, etc.<br />
Make changes based<br />
on feedback<br />
Perform field<br />
reconnaissance by<br />
walking the<br />
community territory<br />
with knowledgeable<br />
members of the<br />
community<br />
Review maps for accuracy<br />
and completeness. Provide<br />
draft copies of maps to<br />
community, organization<br />
leaders, etc. for critical<br />
feedback and input<br />
Produce mapping plan<br />
with community input:<br />
determine personnel<br />
needs, community<br />
participants, equipment<br />
needs, procedures to<br />
follow, and schedule of<br />
activities<br />
Produce final maps and<br />
documentation.<br />
Documentation should include<br />
methods used, dates of<br />
mapping, etc. Anticipate<br />
future revisions to maps.<br />
