2005 Aldo & Riccardo Seghesio Barolo La Villa_ ________________ 46.99
“Aromas of crushed dark fruits, dried mushroom and dried rose follow through to a
full body, with velvety tannins and a long finish. There’s wonderful length and
focus. Best after 2012. 1,100 cases made.” Wine Spectator, rated 92/100
2005 Azelia Barolo San Rocco_ __________________________ 67.99
2005 Domenico Clerico Barolo Ciabot Mentin Ginestra_____________ 84.99
“The 2005 Barolo Ciabot Mentin Ginestra emerges from the glass with endless layers
of sweet spices, menthol, violets and dark fruit on a powerful, authoritative
frame. This is a beautifully defined, sculpted wine of the very highest level. Tar,
smoke and licorice linger on the finish. The tannins are massive at this stage, and
the wine needs time, but the 2005 is undoubtedly one of the stars of the vintage.
Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030.” Wine Advocate, rated 96/100
2005 Domenico Clerico Barolo Pajana_______________________ 84.99
“This deeply scented, layered Barolo possesses a striking bouquet
of spices, tobacco, graphite, dark cherries and new leather that
come together in a breathtaking display of elegance and power
that is hard to fully capture in words. The tannins are, as usual,
quite broad but they are also remarkably fine. In 2005 the Pajana
shows breathtaking balance and harmony with a long, sensual
finish. This is a superb effort from Domenico Clerico, and his team led by the
mega-talented Massimo Conterno. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.” Wine
Advocate, rated 95/100
cream, blueberry and raspberry flavors. Very long, chewy and polished. Best after
2013. 850 cases made.” Wine Spectator, rated 92/100
2005 Giovanni Corino Barolo Vigna Arborina___________________ 54.99
“Blackberry and toasty oak on the nose follow through to a full body, with focused,
powerful tannins and lots of new wood and ripe fruit on the finish. Should come
together wonderfully. Best after 2012. 220 cases made.” Wine Spectator, rated
93/100
2005 Giovanni Corino Barolo Vigna Giachini_ __________________ 54.99
“A wine with very attractive aromas of ripe blackberry, fresh forest
mushroom and raspberry. Full-bodied, with amazing fruit concentration
and powerful tannins. The power and richness of this wine
are superb. A fantastic effort for the vintage. Best after 2014. 560
cases made” Wine Advocate, rated 93/100
“The 2005 Barolo reveals an expressive core of perfumed red raspberries,
spices and sweet herbs. This sexy, elegant wine possesses lovely
balance and tons of style. Over the last few years the house’s Barolo
has established itself as one of the most consistently outstanding
wines in its class. The 2005 is simply delicious and highly recommended.
Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020.” Wine Advocate, rated
90/100
2005 Paolo Scavino Barolo Bric del Fiasc_ _________________ mag. 259.99
“The 2005 Barolo Bric del Fiasc is a huge, muscular wine. In 2005 the wine shows
a decidedly fruit-driven, fresh style. The purity of fruit here is remarkable. The dark,
brooding quality that is often present in the wine is absent, while floral, perfumed
elements dominate in this vintage. The fruit remains dense, ripe and primary. From
start to finish, this is a remarkable Bric del Fiasc. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030.”
Wine Spectator, rated 95/100
2005 Paolo Scavino Barolo Bricco Ambrogio_ __________________ 76.99
“Beautiful ripe strawberry and raspberry aromas, with hints of violet. Full-bodied,
with velvety tannins and a long finish. Very refined and polished. Plenty of finesse.
Best after 2011. 600 cases made.” Wine Spectator, rated 92/100
2005 Paolo Scavino Barolo Cannubi________________________ 104.99
“The 2005 Barolo Cannubi is simply beautiful. Sweet, open aromatics lead to a
silky-textured core of ripe, perfumed fruit as the wine reveals awesome purity,
superb length and classy balance. Floral notes develop in the glass, adding further
complexity and sweet tannins frame the long finish. The wine needs a few years to
come together, but this is striking Cannubi. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2025.”
Wine Advocate, rated 93/100
2005 Paolo Scavino Barolo Carobric_____________________ mag. 199.99
“This rich wine shows exotic fruit on the nose, with blueberry, blackberry and flowers.
Full-bodied, concentrated and chewy, with layers of ripe tannins and loads of
fruit. The finish is massive. Best after 2013. 1,600 cases made.” Wine Spectator,
rated 95/100
2008 Leonetti Merlot Walla Walla Valley
2008 is a spectacular vintage. The various Merlot grapes from different vineyards
and blocks show so well individually that the final blend ended up being comprised
of 100% Merlot. The last time they had a 100% Merlot was in the remarkable
vintage of 2000, and that wine is still drinking beautifully—speaking to the standalone
capabilities of Merlot. I’d be proud to serve this wine blind against any straight
Merlot from anywhere in the world, including Pomerol.
Vineyards in this wine: Loess, Seven Hills, Pepper Bridge, Mill Creek Upland,
Aging Profile: Aged 15 months in new and used French Oak
Blending Detail: Merlot 100%,
Production: 3,179 cases
Robert Talbott Vineyards
Chardonnay
Logan
The 2008 Chardonnay Logan (a selection from the Sleepy Hollow
Vineyard) is a slightly fruitier, more structured style of Chardonnay
from Talbott. Light straw-colored, the wine displays notes of
nectarine, kiwi, orange marmalade, honey, and subtle oak.
Cutting a broad swath across the palate, it is full-bodied,
rich, and impressively endowed. It is the best Talbott
Chardonnay in a number of years.
