Weingut Joh. Jos. Prüm was founded in 1911 by Johann Josef<br />
Prüm. Today it is owned and managed by Dr. Manfred Prüm<br />
and his daughter Dr. Katharina Prüm. They focus solely on Riesling<br />
from famous sites like Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Graacher Himmelreich,<br />
Zeltinger Sonnenuhr and Bernkasteler Badstube. They are currently<br />
one of only nine wine estates in Germany ranked five stars by Gault<br />
Millau, which is the European wine world’s equivalent to the Michelin<br />
guide. Their Rieslings are renowned for their ageing potential and are<br />
sought after by collectors.<br />
A remarkably cold winter led to a rather late awakening of nature. But suddenly, summerlike temperatures in April made for a growth spurt,<br />
causing budbreak about two weeks earlier than usual. While June and July brought a good amount of rain, August and September were very<br />
dry and sunny. Despite a bit of rain in early October, this month brought above-average sunshine and moderate temperatures. This is a fantastic<br />
pre-condition for harvest, which started on October 15 and finished on November 13. The grapes had reached an excellent ripeness with very expressive aromas and<br />
flavors, while also keeping a good acidity. Additionally, some botrytis-affected grapes were selected for the production of Goldcapsules, BA and even TBA. The yields were<br />
overall lower than the long-term average.<br />

2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Cherokee Lane______________________ 9.97<br />
The wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and was sourced from a single sustainably<br />
farmed <strong>vineyard</strong> in Lodi which is located near Sacramento. The 2008 Cabernet<br />
Sauvignon “Cherokee Lane” is loaded with aromas and flavors of red and black<br />
cherries supported by vanilla and cedar nuances. It is beautifully balanced with both<br />
fruit and tannins. An ideal pairing with grilled meats, sausages or stews.<br />
2009 Zinfandel The Chelonian_ ___________________________ 9.97<br />
No other variety represents the region of Lodi like Zinfandel. Over 100 years ago<br />
European settlers believed it to be the best fit for the climate and soils, and their keen<br />
insight paid off. The 2008 Zinfandel “The Chelonian” is 100% Zinfandel and has a<br />
lovely spicy, cherry like bouquet and is bursting with sweet, berry flavors. There are<br />
also delicious overtones of blackcurrant and plums, with a welcoming finish of<br />
vanilla and cinnamon toast. The wine is also very elegant and would be perfect with<br />
any spicy foods, game or beef.<br />
2009 Sauvignon Blanc Cuvée Jeanne_ _______________________ 9.97<br />
The 2009 Sauvignon Blanc “Cuvee Jeanne” is beautifully balanced and aromatic<br />
with suggestions of passion fruit and grapefruit. The palate is crisp and dry but not<br />
too acidic with a good depth of flavor. The wine is perfect as an aperitif or with<br />
chicken, fish or creamy pasta dishes.<br />
2009 Chardonnay Jam’s Blend____________________________ 9.97<br />
The 2009 “Jam’s Blend” Chardonnay boasts bright, fresh aromas and flavors of citrus,<br />
pear, apple and white flowers. Its creamy texture is supported by fresh acidity<br />
and a long, clean finish. Ideal as an aperitif or with poultry, salads, cream based<br />
pastas and softer cheeses.<br />

Jean-Pierre Wolff farms 55 acres of Chardonnay in Edna Valley’s oldest <strong>vineyard</strong>.<br />
A combination of cool weather and drought reduced the chardonnay crop to a<br />
mere 1.5 tons per acre, an historic low. Because the clusters were so small and infrequent,<br />
the grapes matured unusually early so the harvest finished before the end of<br />
September for the first time in twenty three years.<br />
What does this all mean Great concentration in the nose of citrus, guava, mint with<br />
a complexing note of ocean air. Full and rich yet with restraint and finesse on the<br />
palate, this Chardonnay offers green apple, ripe pear and, once again, an ocean<br />
nuance. (This <strong>vineyard</strong> is within a rifle shot of the Pacific Ocean.) With low yields<br />
comes higher expression of terroir.<br />
