Foreign Language Leaders Award
The Foreign Language Leaders Award
(FLLA) is a fantasc experience for anyone
who enjoys taking part in linguisc
acvies and teaching children the basics
of languages.
At the start of the course we all (Chris
Cosne, Ed Jordan and Holly Toney) had to
choose a language which would be
enjoyable for ourselves, but also simplisc
and enjoyable for the First School children
we had to teach. We decided upon Italian
and chose two topics to teach them basic
foods such as pizza, pasta, ice‐cream and
tomatoes as well as colours.
We prepared for the lessons with guidance
from Mrs Loxley in our elecve periods
and free‐me, meeng up a lot to discuss
various ideas. Aer a lot of thought we
decided to do 4 games to teach the pupils:
Kim’s Game, Dominoes, Bingo and Pairs.
We all chose a game each to make and
teach and then made them unique with
our personal choices.
Abbey Park First School was our first
experience of teaching and overall, we
enjoyed the exhilarang experience of
teaching for the first me . It was nerve
wracking at the beginning but rewarding
for both us and the pupils. At Defford
cum‐Besford school we were even sung
the “Thank you ”song.
Overall, the FLLA has made us all gain
confidence and it has been a fantasc
experience throughout. I would
recommend this elecve to any budding
linguist.

La Francophonie Project Winners
At the end of Year 9 students worked on a
project entled ‘La Francophonie’ in their
French lessons.
In groups of 3‐5, students spent up to five
lessons researching informaon about
another French speaking country in the
world. They then produced a power
point and presented this to the rest of the
group in English and French.
The winning groups included a variety of
interacve tasks such as food tasng,
naonal costumes and music from the
countries they researched.
