Pershore Swimmers enjoy the races
Pershore swimmers enjoyed the best ever
results at this year’s County (Hereford &
Worcester) Swimming Championship.
From the first of three weekends their
medal haul so far is their first overall
County Championship trophy, seven
County Age Group Championship records,
thirty placing medals with eighteen of
them gold, nine silver and three bronze,
placing the Pershore club amongst the
elite of the two Counes, and yet is only a
quarter to half of the size of other clubs.
Forty personal bests were achieved from
59 swims.
Only two months following her thirteenth
birthday Tazmin Pugh was on the winning
trail taking seven age group tles in the 13
year age division in the 50m Back (31.26)
and Buerfly (30.08), 100m Back (1.07.86)
and Buerfly 100m (1.08.32) and 400m IM
(5.19.87) and 200m Freestyle
(2.12.62). In taking these tles
Tazmin also climbed to 1 st in the
UK end of year rankings in the 50m Fly,
2 nd in the 50m Back; 3 rd in both the 100m
Fly and 100m IM and 9 th in both the 400m
IM and 200m Freestyle. With over 3,000
swimmers in the girls 13 year age group
compeng throughout Great Britain they
are impressive figures.
Tazmin’s task was made slightly easier
with her main competor also from
Pershore High. Issy Griffiths remaining on
a training programme at her elite club
‘City of Birmingham’ as she qualified for
800m and 1500m in the Brish Gas Trials
for an Internaonal Meet in Leeds on 9
and 10 th March.
Tazmin also broke four County Age Group
Records in the 50m Back and Fly and
100m Back and Fly and in fact only
narrowly missing breaking two more in the
100m and 400m Individual Medley records
by 0.08 and 0.06 seconds.
Tazmin’s successful weekend didn’t end
there as being in the top eight of all the
ladies present Tazmin also made 4 of the
Open Finals usually being the domain of
girls aged 16 and over. She took a Bronze
County Championship tle medal in the
50m Backstroke Final and silver in the
100m Fly. Tazmin kept her best
performance of the weekend for the very
last Open Final, however, when she
stormed to an excing victory in the 50m
Fly to a new personal best and climbing to
1 st in the UK rankings being the 15 th best of
all me in Great Britain.

Tazmin and Harry are due to compete in
the World Schools Biathlon Naonal Finals
at Crystal Palace in late March.

Team Gala she was the top 12 year old
girl in the 100m backstroke and second
in the 100m buerfly.

Champions
The rankings have been made aer the
results from the semi‐finals of the
competon organised by Pentathlon GB.
Tazmin, 12 years old, has been ranked 2nd
out of 178 entrants in the event.
Tazmin helped by a Joanna Brown Trust
grant has been able to compete into the
biathlon for the first me.
She achieved four qualifying mes in the
Naonal Age Group Championships last
year and was eighth in the 100m buerfly

Just finishing outside of podium posion in
the mul event qualifiers were Lizzie Vizard
and Ella Spencer. Tazmin Pugh began her
events with determinaon, and she won
eleven Golds and three Silver medals. She
achieved the following mes: 50m Back
(31.26) and Buerfly (30.08), 100m Back
(1.07.86) and Buerfly 100m (1.08.32) and
400m IM (5.19.87), 200m Freestyle
(2.12.62), 400m free (4.43.77 & 4 th in UK
eyr), 50m free (29.04 & 10 th UK eyr), 200m
IM (2.33.65 & 10 th eyr), and 200m back
(2.24.91 & 5 th in UK eyr).
Tazmin has climbed to 1 st in the UK end
of year rankings in the 50m Fly; 2 nd in
the 50m back; 3 rd in both the 100m Fly
and 100m IM; 5 th in the 200m Back and
9 th in both the 400m IM and 200m
Freestyle. Tazmin also broke five County

Meet Trials in Leeds
Pershore High School’s other top
swimmer Isobel Griffiths who trains with
City of Birmingham club. She competed
in her 13 year age group for the 1500m
and 2 nd in the 800m. Jake Spencer and
Josh Lane were two more of the
competors who qualified in seven
events.
