the Constitution of the United States to govern ourselves. More recently<br />

we have created extended memory for the auditory sense by inventing<br />

sound-recording devices, and later, multimedia devices that extend memory<br />

for replay to all our senses. But before this there were no man-made ways<br />

to record the human experience for direct use in the future. Yet storing<br />

information about experience is essential to any evolutionary system.<br />

So we must ask the question: what are nature’s ways Nature provided<br />

the genetic code as one natural means to organize and preserve information<br />

for later use. I was beginning to suspect that there may be other mechanisms<br />

as well. But here we are getting ahead of our story, as those mechanisms<br />

were not identified for another two decades.
