Appendix 2: <strong>The</strong> management and operation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Values</strong><br />

in Action Schools Project<br />

<strong>The</strong> VASP was managed by Curriculum Corporation on behalf <strong>of</strong> DEEWR. Curriculum Corporation<br />

appointed a Project Direc<strong>to</strong>r, Mr David Brown, and two designated Project Managers, Dr Jenny<br />

Wajsenberg and Ms Jane Wes<strong>to</strong>n, <strong>to</strong> manage <strong>the</strong> project and provide support directly <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> clusters.<br />

An academic advisor and research consultant, Dr Julie Hams<strong>to</strong>n, was engaged <strong>to</strong> advise on <strong>the</strong> research,<br />

analyse project data and <strong>to</strong> syn<strong>the</strong>sise <strong>the</strong> project findings.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Project Managers worked directly with clusters<br />

<strong>to</strong> plan an achievable values project, <strong>to</strong> refine <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

project plan through <strong>the</strong> process <strong>of</strong> continued<br />

reflection, and <strong>to</strong> evaluate <strong>the</strong> impact <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> values<br />

project. In addition, <strong>the</strong> Project Managers provided:<br />

• a variety <strong>of</strong> <strong>to</strong>ols and templates for use in clusters<br />

<strong>to</strong> capture accounts <strong>of</strong> project activity<br />

• appointment <strong>of</strong> and liaison with a designated<br />

University Advisor <strong>to</strong> support each cluster<br />

• liason with State and Terri<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>Values</strong> <strong>Education</strong><br />

Contact Officers <strong>to</strong> promote local networks<br />

• continuous <strong>of</strong>fsite support <strong>to</strong> clusters through<br />

regular formal and informal communication<br />

through phone and email<br />

• written feedback on interim reports and<br />

inter- and intra-teleconferencing with <strong>the</strong><br />

University Advisors<br />

• onsite visits <strong>to</strong> various cluster sites.<br />

<strong>Values</strong> <strong>Education</strong> Project Advisory<br />

Committee<br />

An advisory committee was established <strong>to</strong> provide<br />

consultative advice and support <strong>to</strong> Curriculum<br />

Corporation in managing and administering <strong>the</strong><br />

VASP on behalf <strong>of</strong> DEEWR. <strong>The</strong> role <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Values</strong><br />

<strong>Education</strong> Project Advisory Committee (VEPAC)<br />

was <strong>to</strong>:<br />

• oversee <strong>the</strong> VASP<br />

• participate in <strong>the</strong> selection <strong>of</strong> clusters and advise<br />

<strong>of</strong> new clusters <strong>to</strong> be included in <strong>the</strong> VASP<br />

• provide input and advice on issues arising in<br />

<strong>the</strong> VASP<br />

• assist in promoting and supporting <strong>the</strong> project<br />

among constituents<br />

• provide advice and feedback on <strong>the</strong> VASP<br />

<strong>Final</strong> <strong>Report</strong>.<br />

<strong>The</strong> membership <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> VEPAC included:<br />

• representatives <strong>of</strong> DEEWR<br />

• two academic values education experts, one<br />

nominated by DEEWR<br />

• representatives <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Australian <strong>Education</strong> Systems Officials<br />

Committee<br />

<strong>the</strong> National Catholic <strong>Education</strong> Commission<br />

<strong>the</strong> Independent Schools <strong>of</strong> Australia<br />

<strong>the</strong> Australian Joint Council <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

Teacher Associations<br />

<strong>the</strong> Australian Primary Principals<br />

Association<br />

<strong>the</strong> Australian Secondary Principals<br />

Association<br />

Principals Australia<br />

<strong>the</strong> Australian Council <strong>of</strong> State Schools<br />

Organisations<br />

<strong>the</strong> Australian Parents Council<br />

<strong>The</strong> Australian Parents Council.<br />

Three meetings were held between members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

VEPAC throughout <strong>the</strong> 12-month duration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

VASP and out-<strong>of</strong>-meeting consultations were also<br />

conducted via teleconferences and ongoing phone<br />

and email contact.<br />
