This project drew <strong>to</strong>ge<strong>the</strong>r schools in juvenile detention centres across<br />

Australia. <strong>The</strong> focus <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> project was <strong>to</strong> explore and implement<br />

values education approaches with an emphasis on student resilience<br />

and wellbeing within a positive and engaging whole school learning<br />

environment.<br />

Out <strong>of</strong> Apathy<br />

This project sought <strong>to</strong> improve self-belief and community esteem<br />

by implementing a series <strong>of</strong> self-discovery workshops built around<br />

<strong>the</strong> performing and visual arts.<br />

Resilience, Wellbeing and Learning<br />

This project aimed <strong>to</strong> build student resilience and wellbeing and<br />

improve academic and social outcomes through explicit and implicit<br />

teaching <strong>of</strong> values.<br />

<strong>Values</strong> through ICT and Philosophy<br />

This project built a virtual community <strong>of</strong> learners and explored <strong>the</strong><br />

role <strong>of</strong> philosophical inquiry in unpacking values and exploring <strong>the</strong><br />

ways in which moral and ethical frameworks inform actions.<br />

Living <strong>Values</strong>, Living Relationships<br />

This project aimed <strong>to</strong> improve <strong>the</strong> explicit teaching and learning <strong>of</strong><br />

core values by engaging teachers and students in working with elders,<br />

family and community members <strong>to</strong> develop <strong>the</strong>ir understanding and<br />

practice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se values.<br />

Transitions: <strong>Values</strong>-based Approaches<br />

Successful transition from one class/school <strong>to</strong> ano<strong>the</strong>r is crucial<br />

<strong>to</strong> student wellbeing and success. Through <strong>the</strong> use <strong>of</strong> supportive<br />

programs such as circle time, this project sought <strong>to</strong> create a supportive<br />

community that enabled students <strong>to</strong> transition smoothly and<br />

confidently throughout all levels <strong>of</strong> schooling.<br />

Embedding <strong>Values</strong> <strong>Education</strong> through Service Learning<br />

This project aimed <strong>to</strong> engender a sense <strong>of</strong> civic responsibility in young<br />

people. It builds on <strong>the</strong> values education programs <strong>the</strong> cluster schools<br />

were enacting and created unique values projects for each school<br />

setting.<br />

<strong>Values</strong> Investiga<strong>to</strong>rs: Teachers and Students Researching<br />

<strong>Values</strong> Toge<strong>the</strong>r<br />

This project sought <strong>to</strong> integrate values in<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> curriculum. Teachers<br />

and students established a preschool <strong>to</strong> Year 10 values education<br />

continuum and integrated service learning as an opportunity for<br />

students <strong>to</strong> apply <strong>the</strong>ir values learning.<br />
