Key outcomes<br />

• Whole staff commitment across <strong>the</strong> cluster (200 staff) <strong>to</strong> values education was built through<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional development focusing on resilience, self-confidence, self-esteem and optimism.<br />

• In all schools, leadership teams were established <strong>to</strong> take responsibility for values education.<br />

• <strong>The</strong>re was evidence <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> explicit teaching and modelling <strong>of</strong> values across <strong>the</strong> cluster, which<br />

included strategies for defining and describing values; reinforcing values in spontaneous<br />

interactions with students (‘catch <strong>the</strong>m if <strong>the</strong>y are good’); symbolising values through illustrations,<br />

text and visual images; written reflections; student role-plays; problem-solving scenarios; random<br />

acts <strong>of</strong> kindness boards; and ‘mini Vinnies’.<br />

• <strong>The</strong>re was an increased student awareness, articulation and demonstration <strong>of</strong> what values mean<br />

in real-life contexts.<br />

• In all schools, collaborative writing teams designed and developed four units <strong>of</strong> work embedding<br />

values and specific strategies fostering resilience, self-confidence, self-esteem and optimism.<br />

<strong>The</strong> units were trialled across four schools.<br />

• All members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> school community began sharing <strong>the</strong> same values language and understanding<br />

<strong>of</strong> what values mean.<br />

• A collaborative student learning community was established across <strong>the</strong> cluster schools<br />

using Moodle.<br />

• <strong>The</strong> cluster reported some evidence <strong>of</strong> positive change in student behaviour, increased student<br />

wellbeing, resilience and improved academic outcomes.<br />

• <strong>The</strong>re was broad appreciation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> MSC technique as an important research <strong>to</strong>ol for<br />

future projects.<br />
